this is probably common knowledge to hardcore Busse fans, but where did the Combat Basic line get off to? about a year ago they seemed to everywhere, but now (when i really want to buy my first Busse) i can't seem to find any. am i just looking in the wrong places?

if they're gone, it's too bad, i thought they were very attractive in rock solid, not too pricey sorta way.

thanks in advance for any info,
e.

The Basic line has gone out of production. You can find them sometimes on the forums for sale and some websites still have some to buy. I have a Basic #9 and let me tell you.... it kicks more ass than any knife I have ever handled! If you are patient you can find them on the selling forums but I'm sure some people here know web sites that still have some... If you really want one.... you will get it. I bought mine just a few months ago - long after they were out of production. Get a Basic and you will not regret it.

so there wasn't any problem with them? i got the impression (perhaps wrong) that they were manufactured on a slightly more "mass production" scale then the Busse custom models. as long as there weren't any flaws that led to there being discontinued i will keep my eyes open for one to purchase...they came in 3", 5", 7", and 9" right?

thanks,
e.

There are NO FLAWS with the Basics... Jerry sometimes takes knives out of production and introduces new ones just to keep things... exciting? Yes. The Basics are 3", 5", 7" and 9". I have a 9. The knife is perfect and better than any other knife I own. Keep your eyes open... I am also sure people who see this thread will let you know of how to aquire a Basic at a decent price. I did.

cool! thanks for the info...i'll keep my eyes peeled for a 7" or 9".

if i can't find one i might just have to take the plunge into the full on custom line...

The Basic series were made from a modified version of Busse's INFI steel (often referred to as 'Modified INFI'). It was slightly (very slightly) below the performance of the regular INFI lineup, and was less expensive. If I recall, the M-INFI costs increased to a point so close to that of regular INFI that it was no longer cost-effective to produce them.

Occasionally they turn up on Ebay, and on the Exchange - Sale by Individual forum. Pretty decent prices also. Ya nevah know.

Be patient. I was, and just landed a new 9. We have no greenery around the house now....

Good luck.

Also, with Blade just around the corner, you never know what Jerry will decide to release...

GearGoon,
Welcome to the Busse forum, glad you stopped by. :D:D

Good luck in finding some of the Basics, as mentioned if your patient you'll find one(or more ;))

Yep, just keep watching the for-sale boards! I routinely prowl the bladeforums for-sale board, the knifeforums for-sale board, and Ebay. I'm sure a basic will turn up!

We have no greenery around the house now....

Perhaps you should reshrubberize your abode:) I happen to know someone that could help you in these times of need:p

The Basics were great in my book. There definately was no problem with them other than the fact that when Jerry went to order his resupply of modified INFI, he found the price to be very close to the level of INFI. Accordingly, he was no longer able to accomplish the mission objective of the Basics line: to provide Busse design and execution along with INFI qualities at a serviceable/affordable price point.

Myself (and others!!!) have been pressing Jerry to consider reintroducing the Basics line so we can enjoy the Resciprene-C handles and ultilitarian designs. IMO, the Basics rock.

Jerry, you listening here?

I agree, the Basics are great knives! I really like the feel of the Resiprene C handles, and I also prefer the Basic blade tip profile over that of the current NO/SH/BM. The Resiprene C, along with the shape of the handle, make the Basics the most comfortable feeling knives I have ever held!
:D

I feel the Basic 5, 7 & 9 would be great sellers in INFI. Jerry, are INFI Basics a possibility?

Gene

Seems as though Jerry is Basically silent on this one. Hmmmmmm ... ?
