What happened to the mule team 14?

Spydiewiki entry says the steel was suppose to be in CTS-204P and that it "Was originally planned for production and announced in the Spyderbyte email, but never released." Not sure what went wrong but, if I had to guess I say that CTS-204P turned out to be unobtanium, since the Feb 2012 Spyderbyte it was in was actually announcing MT13 and only said that MT14 was "coming later in the year".

CTS-204P is not unobtainium any more. It's not too late to release MT14 now as far as I'm concerned. I'd sure love to have one. But, if the idea of the Mule Team is to let people learn about a "new" metal, I suppose that ship has sailed. We all know CTS-204P is awesome already. I still want want one though.

I recall that they received a bad batch of 204P that was intended for the Mule that they had to send back to Carpenter. They postponed the Mule and people would ask for it periodically but it nevermade it to production. That's over two years ago now. There's supposedly 3-5 Mules down the pipeline at all times, it's unlikely they will revisit the 204P especially since it has become more common in Spyderco's lineup anyway.

That's certainly a possibility, but Spyderco very often produces things when these forums make them believe there's sufficient user interest. Given that, plus the fact that they skipped the number and did not simply use a different steel for MT-14, plus the fact that regular models have not always appeared in strict numerical order, I would not totally rule out there ever being a MT-14 in CTS-204P.

Carson Wells: I was wondering...

Man who hires Wells: Yes?

Carson Wells: Could you validate my parking ticket?

Man who hires Wells: An attempt at humor, I suppose.

Carson Wells: I'm sorry... You know, I counted the Mules in this building from the street.

Man who hires Wells: [sighs] And?

Carson Wells: There's one missing.

Man who hires Wells: [sarcastically] We'll look into it.

Yeah, there was plenty of excitement for it when it was due (1st quarter of 2012) and it continued being requested with people asking for updates. 204P is not in short supply, problems if any have seem to have been resolved, and it is still a desired steel. Time will tell but they seem to have moved on.
