What happened to the Nalgene Guyot bottles?

Some of the places that I saw stocked the Nalgene made s/s Guyot bottles no longer do so. And, they seemed to have sky rocketed in price through the roof online. WTH? As if people think there's no better alternative? How did we go from a $10 s/s bottle to $40+?

:confused::eek::thumbdn:

I thought they were discontinued. now they are going for big money! I guess it's a classic case of supply and demand. they used to sell them at my job. I'm kicking myself for not buying a couple before they sold out...

bepreparedtosurvive still has them for about $26. They have lots of other hard to find gear as well.

Not discontinued.

We have had a hard time getting steel bottles from our supplier Guyot Designs but we have worked something out and should have more bottles in stock in April. We're sorry for the long delay and appreciate your patience.

Looks like they are discontinued. I thought they were doing ok even if Kleen Kanteen was taking more of the high-end of the bottle market. Their website https://www.guyotdesigns.com is completely different (worse) from what it was 2 years ago, and the bottle is not listed. Maybe one of their vendors will know more.

Edit:
Maybe not... FortyTwoBlades reads better than I do. Just supply problems for Guyot/Nalgene maybe. I bet that is posted regarding April 2012 though and just hasn't been updated for a year.

I lost my Guyot Nalgene, and picked up a Klean Kanteen since I couldn't find a replacement Nalgene locally.

I don't care for KK's smaller, internally threaded cap and I'm happy to learn the Nalgenes will be back some day!

Only way to know for sure is to contact Nalgene and see what they have to say. This has been a year-long hiccup for them, so hopefully it'll et ironed out.

Strange. It'd be most beneficial to them to figure this out quickly - it's a desirable product.

I remember seeing it on the shelves at Dick's some time ago and they were priced the same as Nalgene's wide-mouth bottles. I actually got mine when they were on sale for $2-$3 less. That's right... I got mine for about $7! Then... then they were gone. I don't think they sold out, I think they took 'em off the shelves.

I gifted two of 'em to some hardcore outdoors friends of mine (raft guides in the summer, ski patrol in the winter) and they really liked 'em... much more so than the plastic wide-mouth ones. I saw the ones I gifted about a year later and they looked like the beat up chrome bumper on my neighbor's Pinto, but they were still fully functional: cap screwed on/off well, they stood straight, and most importantly the string was still intact. Not having to duct tape a handle like they had to on the plastic wide-mouth ones 'cause they broke so easy.

Interesting how companies tend to mess up on products that work.

I also got mine at Dick's on clearance for $10 bucks maybe two years ago. If I'd known then, I would have bought several.

I'd like to get a Maxpedition or Condor holder for it to tote it around in.

Oh I think they'll get things running again but I imagine that Guyot may have had some sort of massive equipment malfunction or something that caused the delay. There's tons of demand for the item--enough so that Nalgene didn't boot Guyot to the side and disco' the items when the problem flared up and then just didn't go away. I'm sure there's a very logical reason for it, but there simply hasn't been any official explanation given.
