What happened to the RAT7?

Ontario still sells the RAT-7 as far as we know. I do know they discontinued some RAT models but I don't think this was something they discontinued.

I think the D2 was discontinued but not the 1095? I think that was bad move discontinuing the D2 since it was one of the better sellers. I've had several large distributors call me and ask why Ontario would do that.

Either way, discontinued or not, I find them harder and harder to find and most of the dealers to whom I asked when they would get them, they all said : the thing with Ontario is that you don't know what and when you're gone get it.

When looking for a RAT-7 I found myself with an RC-6, no regret whatsoever, love my blade, RAT Cutlery is top notch, just waiting for their version of the RTAK II :)

Nothing definitive, but all of the in-use breakages I've heard of on the RAT-7 were on the D2 models.

true, but what guy couldn't use an extra inch. well, besides me ofcourse.

But why not save another $30 or so and get the RC-6 instead?[/QUOTE]

I've got both and prefer the RC6.

And everyone knows I'm a "big knife" kinda guy.

Problem with the Rat-7 is the blade doesn't taper to the tip, and the grind is not deeper at the tip, so the tip angle is 90degrees, included, or so, and won't punch through paper.
