I can't find the Rick Hinderer Knives section. Maybe I'm just blind? What I am is really upset that the company i once loved and worked my hardest 7-9 years ago has ruined my collection. I have priceless pieces. Pieces I paid 3200 for. I have a collection of 8 knives I paid 11 grand for. Now I see them slinging like shit all over eBay for a few hundred. What used to cost 2000, can be had for 600 dollars, if your lucky.

Does ANYONE else feel this pain and have any ideas? I know I can pay for a membership and sell here. Trust me I did it for years! I was an avid member of the RHK section of the boards...it can't be gone? I was well liked w a gorgeous collection. Now what?

Into prescious metals now. Not sure what to do. Is it even worth selling? Man I fucked up investing that much money in these knives, just for the company to get big and fuck over their biggest collectors. Some guys on there had 30 grand collections. ‍♂️

Open for discussion.

Thanks!

Knife is more of an hobby than an investment
There will be exceptions for sure, but also a lot of risks

I you like your knives, keep them and enjoy them. At least it will be something value has obtînt to do with
Otherwise sale them... at least you won’t have lost everything ....

What happened is their production caught up to their demand, so you can buy a Hinderer at retail with little trouble. No more selling to first responders only, either. It went from hard to acquire to a commodity. Somebody always buys at the top of the market and loses, and you weren’t the only one.

If you paid $3,200 for a knife that normally retails around 5 to 600 as an "investment" then that is your mistake. Were they supposed to keep their numbers artificially low just so you could keep value in your safe? They are a business, their goal is to sell as much as possible.

I bought a rare hinderer at Blade Show directly from Rick that I "won" in a lottery. Paid $400 or $500 for it. I could have offloaded it easy for 3x that amount. But I didn't, and it's still sitting in it's box and now I might be able to get what I paid for it. However it was my grail at the the time and so I'm happy having it as a memento of my blade show trip.

I only regret the 3" one I bought that I used a few times and then realized it was too small for me.

You bought knives for $3200 on the secondary market. RHK at one time sold direct only to LEO, military, FRs. You should have looked at the direct retail sale price of those knives and realized the value was all hype. As RHK grew, they increased production and began selling to anyone via authorized dealers.

You can look at any RHK, either in the past or present, and see that the sum of the parts, fit/finish and performance don’t match up with a $3200 price tag.

The Rick Hinderer sub-forum was closed a the request of their rep in 2015. You can find it in the Archives section.

If you like the knives, use them and enjoy them. If you want to sell, you may have some old or unique models that sell for over current retail. Good luck with your knives.

Somebody made sick bank on the knives you bought; it was the guy who sold them to you.

Hopefully you bought some steel-flame pieces back then. They are collector only even now, demand crazy prices today. If you did, sell them now.

I for one am happy about the current prices. Allows me to use knives that I feel no other brand offers.

For that money, I would only get a full custom. Not that I would ever spend that much, especially on a Hinderer.

Rick Hinderer never ever ever pretended to be one to cater to the collectors marker. In fact, he has stated himself that his knives are exactly the opposite. It was bound to happen.
Busting his ass all his life as a firefighter and grinding out blades, I'm so glad this man has found success! He has certainly earned it

That being said, the only safe way to make money from knives, is to buy them cheap (from other people, or from lotteries), and flip them quickly. However, don't expect alot of love from the community! They will pick up on it lol

Just stick to precious metals dude. Long term you wont lose money

This is the most hilarious thing I have ever read on this forum.

Woo buddy!

Just as an aside.. even over a hundred years, the knives I collect are literally worth the same purchasing power they were worth when they were new.

Knives aren't an investment you can plan to be worth anything. They're always making more of them. Transferable machine guns and acreage are the only things worth money that actually evaluate faster than inflation.

3200 for a Hinderer? You paid for someone else's land and machine guns buying stupid crap like that.
