Hello;
"Newbie" to EDC here.
Time for me to step up in lock strength from my beloved K55's.
Just purchased a new BM 710 D2; a MOD Razorback, and a Chinook "3"
as my first EDC's. I've been doing alot of "looking around" and learning. I'm considering a knife for neck carry, and like what I saw in the Ronin
(love the Nealy line too...but haven't justified the $$$$ yet).
Can anybody tell me whay happened to the availability of the Spyderco Ronin ??? They seem to have fallen off the face of the earth.

Thanks;

Steven B.

Spyderco stopped production 2 or 3 years ago AFAIK.

I had one and sold it.
It was too big for neck carry, IMO.

Great knife though. Wicked sharp out of the box.

i wouldnt pay $170 for one lol, not a bad little knife though.

they have been disco'd a while now and i occasionally see them for sale in the for sale forum.

As was already mentioned, it was discontinued some time ago. Since then the supply has slowly dried up.

I've read some folks have gone to stockpiling them with 10 or more Ronins at their disposal.

VG-10 steel, micarta handle, decent kydex sheath. proven slicer, easy to sharpen.

I have a Ronin, but it's a bit heavy for a neck knife. I use mine as a around-the-house utility knife. It sharpens easily and cuts like a laser. Too bad it was discontinued.

I agree; a bit heavy for the neck, and IMO big and printy under a shirt.

But it is small and sleek enough for IWB or plain old belt sheath carry. It conceals quite well around the waist.

I love mine, but don't carry it much.

I think the biggest problem was that it was a higher quality piece than most of its competion - full height flat grind on a wide blade, handmade micarta handles - which made it more expensive than its competition, which made it move slowly (outside the small knife nut and serious combative market.) I know when I got mine, I showed it to a number of friends who said Wow! Hey, I want one!, who then said HOW much!?!?!?!?

I think it's my most scalpel-y carry piece, but a lot of people just aren't willing to pay for that good a knife, so it didn't make sense for Spyderco to keep it in production. Let's face it, most people really DON'T need that kind of quality in their knife.

Note these are all my guesses and opinions, I'm unaware if Sal has ever commented on why they disco'd the Ronin.
