Saw it on the ZT website for months saying "coming soon", but now it's been off their site for at least a couple months. Are they still planing on producing it?

Thats one I can't wait to see. I can dream that I will be able to find a 454 to add to my collection

Maybe ZT is trying to win the most innovative knife of the year award with the same model two years in a row. Seriously, should a manufacturer be eligible to win an award for a design they don't produce during the year it's awarded? Or should Blade change the category to "most innovative prototype of the year" instead?

Maybe you should write up a set of rules and regulations that KAI / ZT can follow so maybe then you would be happy??

No. Common sense should do just fine. And I'm not unhappy. If anything, I'm impressed at what some manufacturers can get away with.

What makes you think that they are trying to "get away with" anything? Why should you have any say whatsoever on how long it takes a manufacturer to produce and ship out a LE knife? Maybe you should give it a try and see if you can do any better?? lol

edited to add: I just figured it out...... its much easier for you to complain about it here!!

The 0454 should be a spectacular knife and I hope I land one..Zt's LE are pretty spectacular for a production knife.I feel that some of Kai's competition is trying to play catch up in the hard use arena.Zt is pushing the envelope and especially the LE's really shine in overall quality, innovation, and popularity.Zt is setting the bar in my eyes and most others will either try to follow of just keep beating to their own drum. Are Zt's Le's still considered production knives or are they unofficially midtechs? It takes however long it takes.I know at my place of employment we are so busy that we don't think about tomorrow until tomorrow and planning what happens next week, month or year is out of the question.I will always be patient because ZT keeps dropping some pretty amazing Le's.Landing one, well that's another subject.....

I've been told by numerous people close to the KAI folks that the 0454 is indeed a go and sometime within the next month it will most likely ship (but supply will be very limited). I'm not a huge fan of the long wait times or that such limited quantities are made, but the quality of these sorts of knives KAI produces are simply incredible manufacturing achievements and push the boundaries on all fronts. They are certainly worth the nightmare of finding one and the price.

Cool, I was just wondering, since they took it off the site, if it is indeed still on the slate. Thanks guys.

I disagree, you are implying there is something underhanded going on, and that should be clear to you (speaking of common sense) that is not the case. People get emotionally vested in dates and material items as if they have some psychological dysfunction, they breakdown, meltdown, and act like idiots when a deadline is missed. You've seen this before, and they do nothing short of crapping on a company at any given opportunity thereafter.

:grumpy: why can't I lock this thread, I found out what I needed and I feel a storm a brewin...

Rev, I guess that's why Busse always says "two weeks", huh? To avoid disappointment if a deadline isn't kept? I'm not upset about anything, just wondering if they still have it on their list of things to do since it's not on their site anymore. Being a longtime Busse customer, I'm used to waiting months to years for knives. No biggie, I have plenty to keep me busy (and plenty to keep my wallet drained) in the meantime.

Ive seen you complain on every single ZT knife thread about release times.....every single one!!!! If you have that much of a problem with way they do things dont buy the product!!! its that easy....really. I believe everyone is tired of hearing you cry about same thing. I 0454 will be released when its ready, im looking foward to it myself.

I think whenever the discussion of delivery dates come up, everyone should still keep in mind the final actual product. In regards to this discussion, there has not been a single design that has compromised on any quality aspect whatsoever in the least. Dates and waits can be frustrating, but it's a single grain of sand on a beach compared to how good or how bad a final design is. Chances are the 0454 will follow the 0777, 0888, 0801CF, 0600 and others in that it will deliver a product that says without a need for words why the demand on these LE KAI models are so high and why everyone is pawing over them.

If the wait sucked and then the design sucked, that would be one thing. But it isn't. The original designs coming out are practically manufacturing marvels on a level of quality not normally associated with a larger production-level maker. Yes, I certainly wish they made more and certainly wish we did not have to wait so long, but if that is what it takes for a knife of this quality at such a reasonable price (provided it's not a non-dealer sale), then so be it. It beats a short wait, large-scale production, and good-but-not-stellar fit and finish any day in my book.

I've looked at my 0777 under magnification and even then, I cannot find inconsistencies in the finish and I can visibly see very minor areas in which the utmost attention to detail was paid. That's not normal at all.

I think you and pnsxyr are on the right track. Unfortunately, not everyone understands these things. Instead, things get obscured by ignorance and anger all about something we have no control over. Two weeks is right, designs can change, material availability can change, problems with machining, heat treat, tolerances, people get sick, take vacation, machines break, production schedules change, life happens.

I can care less as long as I can get my hands on one. I just hope all the pre-order spots won't be gone in seconds.

The hard part is to figure out which dealer is getting them. I remember talking to the Kai rep last year about availability, and the dealers are selected via lottery because there would be very few made. I haven't looked into this at all since no other infos on the 0454 has been released the last time I checked, which was a few months ago.
