What happens to scraps?

I just got to see the SpyderCo video recently and noticed something:

During the footage of the "Q-Fog" rust test, I noticed that some of the blades being sampled were defects. I saw atleast one blade that was ground on the wrong side. What happens to these blades that are screwed up? Can they be recycled or are they just thrown in to some giant scrap heap?

The reason I ask, and I know this is a pretty big longshot, is that I'd love to have a Spyder-screw-up. I would just love to have it in my collection. I don't know why, I'm just like that. I figure this is pretty impossible but I'm still curious as to what happens to the screwy pieces.

Hi Think. Our "screw ups" are barely visible. You probably wouldn't notice it unless pointed pout. We do get some 2nds that we sell through the store, but you have to walk in. The odd grinds that you see in steel testing was reground for another purpose. That doesn't matter in Q-Fog testing so the "scrap" serves more than one purpose, some sort of grind test and a corrosion test.

Thanks for the explanation. I just assumed that the oddly grinded piece I saw was a mistake. I didn't stop to think that it was part of testing and expermintation.

SFO sells seconds, eh? One more reason for me to take a trip to see the Spyderco operations in person.
