What happens to the rolling lock if REKAT goes under? I am not implyinmg in any way that is going to happen, but if it did what happens to the patent? Would other companies be able to use it then without paying royalties to the defunct company?

Hi,

I think they would have to pay royalties to the original pantent holder's? That's my best guess:confused: :D .

I personally emailed REKAT and the lady ensure me that they weren't going out of business. She may be lying or not telling the truth. For now, they aren't going out of business

Ok lets play the game of what if.
If REKAT went under.
Until the patent ran out anyone not already under license would have to pay royalties to use the lock.
Pat Carwford would still do customs and that’s where I got my start building customs.
I would go back to building customs; I do build one from time to time in my spare time. That would leave three sources of customs. Who is the third, well that’s a big part of what has cut down the time that I have to spend on the web. This is a (you heard it first on blade forums and you all should know I like to keep my personal life to myself) I got married on the 6th of June and my wife likes to make knifes as a hobby. She has not got to folders yet but she may some day. Maybe a third.
Will the Rolling Lock die and fade away into history? No way in the hot place! It would live on, if in only in the custom line.
Reality, Where is Round Eye Knife & tool. Still building knives but taking on a tool line outside of the knife industry. Is REKAT getting out of the knife industry, no at this time there are eleven new knives on the board for potential prototyping. There it is and some more that I like to put on the net but it’s where were at. REKAT is firm and solid.

I find it very ironic that even though the REKAT Manufacturer's forum was closed due to a poor relationship between REKAT and the people who post threads, we still are getting fresh posts from the REKAT gang. What happened to:

"As soon as possible we are closing this forum. I can see nothing-positive coming from this venture. The last straw was being threatened with out cause or reason. By a person that feels that he should threaten and make noise rather than ask for customer service. As soon as Spark returns this forum will be closed. I see nothing like this happening to other manufactures which leads me to believe the little troll patrol has nothing better to do with their lives than to try and cause me grief.

Christina Montero"

????????????????????????????????????

It is my opinion that the Rolling Lock has great potential. I feel that once it is refined, it will make a quality lock that can be relied on. Currently, there are too many issues/questions surrounding it. Hopefully, there will be some more "design" work done on it.

As far as I am concerned Bob and Christina are welcome to come and post here as often as they want. If they come and answer questions about REKAT on this of any other forum then that is be good for those looking for the answers.

As members here they are free to take part when, and if they please. I think that probably fits their schedules more than trying to take care of a forum of their own.

I am VERY PLEASED to see Bob Brothers posting here, or anywhere at BladeForums. I DO miss the "REKAT Forum", but this is better than nothing.:).

I'm hopefull that some time in the future, REKAT will return here with their Forum again, open-up a kick-ass web-site, and maybe even come-out with a "paper catalog" (for those of us who like to drool over pictures of REKAT knives).

Congrats on your marrage.

Good to hear that you are still making a few customs.

As far as the rolling lock goes. I have #'s 50 and 51 of the first batch for BFC, one of the first black t'd, #02 of the black-t/red G-10, one each of the D2e "smooth" handles, and a CF Sifu's. I also have #02 red/black carni, a green carni and one of the first CF Carni Cubs sold.

Some stay mint in the case but others are carried and used. The Cub is in my edc rotation. I've never had a problem with the lock letting go.

Keep 'em comming and I get the ones that "have it" for me.
