Hey guys just picked up this izula 2 at the flea market it had heavy patina and a little rust when I cleaned it up a bit I realized it has some kind of etching on it also I'm pretty sure it is stripped and somewhat polished. The surface feels smoother than any other knife I own. I guess I'm just curious what has been done to this knife. I paid 50$ for it and wondered if that seems fair given its condition etc. the edge also seems convexed do they come this way ?

Looks like your assumptions could be correct! You could either A. Send it to me for testing or B. check under the scales for any corrosion and treat it and start using it!!

Thats called a patina it is 1095 a high carbon steel. It will rust if you leave it wet. A patina is normal for this you got a good deal and nothing is wrong with that knife.

I've actually removed all the coloration (patina) with super fine sand paper in the process of removing rust what you see here in the pic is actually etched into the steel

As long as nothing is wrong with it structurally, it will do its job just as well as a brand new Izula. Its a working knife, they liked to be used hard.

Great purchase!

Almost looks like some one did a forced patina. Using mustard, etc.

If you leave it on it makes patterns. If you leave it on longer, it will actually etch pretty deep patterns into the steel. Make it wavy.

Force a patina with lime juice, mustard, vinegar or cutting meat or fruit. Then it will resist rust much better.

here it is with a fresh patina. I used the boiling vinegar method which I read somewhere on this forum a while back and has worked well on 1095 in the past for me what do y'all think ?
