What have I got?

Within my knife collection is a small grouping of SOG 5th Special Forces S1 Bowies. I recently purchased another that I believe is an early Santa Monica made knife, but what what has be puzzled is that the usual early markings are missing. The knife blade does not have the SF crest nor the SF presentation markings - all it shows is the very early SOG SPECIALTIES stamping rather than the later "in the box" makers mark. The Scabbard is completely free of any marking on the front with the only stampings being on the upper back portion which is SOG SPECIALTIES over Santa Monica CA. The seller stated that it is not a prototype, but I've never seen one like this. The only one that comes somewhat close is the latter "Sterile" version which, I believe, was a customer request item only. Can anyone shed any further light on this one. Thanks.

I think you are right the only ones I have ever seen like this are the "sterile" versions that were as you said a customer request item. I actually remember reading in a forum a few years ago that Sog offered the non customized versions on their site back in the early or mid 2000s. It looks good, definitely a nice addition to your collection.

Nice score, Blade-Fan. This particular fixed-blade knife would be a perfect companion to a vintage SOG Teamleader folder.
