What have I got?

I went to my parents house for a little while this afternoon. They were cleaning the basement and found this knife that I bought at a yard sale when I was 8-10 years old (over 25 years ago). I remember getting it and think I paid $2 for it. The guy I bought it from said they were made for the U.S. Army in Japan before WWII, but I have no idea.
The only markings I could find was Japan with 1C over it on the large blade.
Any info would be appreciated.

Not made for the Army.
And I think not made before WW II,

Made in the 60's, IIRC. Made for export to the US sporting goods market.

Wow is that cool! Definitely a minimalist all in one for a camping/hiking pack.
Looking forward to hearing more!

These things were all over the place in the 50s and early 60s.

VERY cheaply made.

As a kid who knew a good knife when I saw one, and used my knife (only had one at a time back then), I avoided them like the plaugue.

About as useful as warts on a billiard ball.

My dad had one, don't know what happened to it, that was actually very well made. The one I bought, don't know what happened to it either, turned out to the cheap-cheap one. Oh, well.

When I became a scout in the mid '70s, these knives were somewhat common. Towards the latter part of the decade, I didn't see many. Folks who had them seemed to like them pretty well. Some had holster/sheath for belt wear.

I remember having something similar (may have been that same one actually...) from my scouting days in the 80s/early 90s. It was given to me by either my dad or the troop leader, but I doubt either of them would remember if I asked them.
Not sure where it ended up, but I remember loving the goofy thing!
It is always neat to find treasures from your childhood:thumbup:

That brings back memories. I had one in the early sixties. Not sure where and when it went. Think I had it when I was in the scouts. I had completely forgotten about it. Brings back memories of some fun times. Thanks. Mike

The best part of a old knife is sometimes not the usefulness of the knife but the memories it returns to ya. Great find my friend great find
