Hello. First, I know very, very little about knives. My dad gave me a Randall sheath knife that I THINK he got in the 60's. The sheath is original and has the stone. Any views as to what this is and what it might be worth are appreciated. Not for sale, just very curious.
Thanks in advance.

Best.

Stephen, If the black buttons are the original color your knife appears to be a 1940's era Randall Model 4 "Big Game and Skinner". /// Rhett Stidham

Hello, sir. The black buttons are original; nothing's been changed whatsoever. I certainly appreciate both your post and your email. Thank you so much.

Best.

With those thick spacers, and the black button sheath, I'm in full agreement with Rhett.

Mid to late 40's #4, hard to say, but definitely pre '50's.

I saw a similarly sheathed RMK model #3-6 with a stacked leather handle offered for $2200 yesterday...not to say that it did, or will, sell for that amount, but that's what the fellow was asking.

I'd say yours is closer to a 'real' value of $900 to $1600, dependant on who is doing the buying.

The keys here are the original sheath, stone, and the pinned ivory(?) handle.

Are there any sheath maker's marks on the sheath? What is the color of the stone. And is that ivory, or stag, material used for the handle?

I would strongly advise that you not clean or alter the knife in any way; and have it professionally appraised prior to sale, should you ever desire to sell it.

Nice knife, nice dad, and thanks for sharing it with us Stephen! :)

Hello. The handle is ivory and appears pinned with one brass pin. The whetstone is very dark grey in color, measuring 7/8 x 3 x 3/8".

On the rear of the sheath in an oval is the maker's name.

It is H.H. HEISER, in all caps. The first "H" and the "R" are kind of a script style as opposed to the remaining letters.

Below that, it says "MAKER," and below that in smaller letters, Denver, Colo.

Hope that helps and again, thank you all.

Best.
