My friend picked this up and it looks OLD. I have seen that edge type before, but on a trade axe, not one that looks drifted and has a hammer poll. There is a round maker's stamp, bet we were afraid to clean this one too much. Anyone seen it's like before?





 
It's a French or Italian carpenter's axe. Takes a 'hawk style handle.

Clean that sucker up, sharpen the bit, put a haft on it, cut some wood and drive some nails with it! That would be so much fun!!!
 
Maybe give the head a vinegar bath. Would remove the rust and hopefully expose the mark enough to make it out.
