40 years ago I was gifted a Randall Made knife. Well, it was not really gifted, I had to pay 1 US penny for it. I was told when I "bought" it that I was not an owner, but a protector, of the knife. I was also told that I would know when it was time to sell it on, and who to "sell," it to.

Next week I will meet with the new "owner," of this knife. They will pay me 1 US penny for it, and will be the new rightful owner.

I am not certain what this Randall is worth, as I do not care. It was mine, now it will move on.

We are all conservators of the past. Conservatorship does not always mean, "profit." Often, conservatorship means teaching others to appreciate the past.

I trust this Randall Made knife will be sold on, for 1 US penny, sometime in the next 40 years- because I trust the person who will get it from me. Who will get it after that, I wonder...

I am glad to have held this knife in my collection, as it waited for the next collector, and the collector after that.

About 15 years ago I was gifted a #5 from the late 80's with some cool options including the compass in the handle. I gifted it onward to my cousin's son before he shipped out to Parris Island. He just graduated boot camp last Friday.

A roof over their heads 3 square meals health insurance untill they are 26 and a Randall of their choice when they graduate high school. It’s more than my parents gave me.
