I want to know a few of the most important things you have learned here on BF, good or bad. So post a few of the most important things youve learned on here and how you learned them.

1. On a Scale from 1 to 10 how much have you learned about knives being on this forum? 2. AND how much did you know before being on the forums? 0 being that you havent learned at all, and 10 being that you know more than YOU EVER THOUGHT WAS POSSIBLE! (Not saying that you know more than anyone else or you know EVERYTHING, Just that you know more than YOU ever THOUGHT you ever WOULD.)

3.On a Scale from 1 to 10 how much do you think you know about knives? 0 being you dont know what knives are, 5 being that you know quite a bit (more than the average knife USER) but know there is still ALOT to LEARN, and 10 being you know EVERYTHING about how they are made to how they are sharpened... Chemical by chemical, steels, handle materials, screws, all the internal guts.. EVERYTHING!

I will start:
The most important thing I have learned is that not all people are as bad as I used to think. I was never paranoid or anything about people, I just knew that inside we were all animals and would kill eachother to survive, and that people dont respect other people, or themselves for that matter, like they should anymore. BUT then I came here and found new faith in people. I always brag to my friends and family about the kind of people on this forum, we are a community, I feel like we are family, and thats why I call other members my BF Bothers and Sisters.

I learned a lot about knives.
I learned that there are nice, and not so nice people, everywhere.
I learned that I don't need the top of the line knife to get the job done.
I know Bladeforums is a great place to visit.

I learned ZT knives aren't gimmicky. I used to think an oversized folder was a dumb idea.

I learned knife fan boys are worse than iPhone fan boys. Seriously.

I learned about ESEE and Swamp Rat. I'm now a fan.

I learned more about the properties of various steels. My inner geek enjoys that.

I learned that there's a place to chat with people that aren't just enthusiasts, but rather are deeply involved in the industry. Far and away my favorite thing about BF.

This place is the devil, I tell you! Get out while you can! I'll soon be selling my watch to buy a milling machine. If youarent careful, you might have your username in orange letters. This is progressive and fatal (to your bank account) disease.

This website actually helped me slow down because I saw how many ridiculously nice and even more ridiculously expensive Busse, Microtechs, ZTs, etc. there are out there. I realized I can't own every knife that I want, and have to settle for just a few.

Very good question.

For me:
10: I've learned more here in five-&-a-half years than I ever thought I could learn.
3: I knew a little bit, mostly what brands were better, etc.
4: Still have a LOT left to learn. It'll be an ongoing, lifelong (and very enjoyable) endeavor.

The single most important thing I've learned is that in most situations, knowledge & skill matter more than the knife. Having an expensive knife and not knowing how to use it to it's full potential is pointless. Having an inexpensive knife, knowing how to use it, and knowing how to get the best performance out of it matters more than anything else.

I'm also reminded how much the old designs still work. Progress is a good thing, but it's nice to remember that my beat up old pre-1986 Buck 119 still gets the job done.

I have learned that i shouldn't post threads asking about what knife everyone else thinks i will enjoy and be happy with.

I have learned anything you buy can be sold so take a chance.

I have learned that you should enjoy everyday to its fullest.

I have learned if you really want something you should get it because if you substitute it for something else you wont really be satisfied.

I have learned that the people at blade forums can only suggest and not make decisions for me.

I have learned that the only way you can be satisfied is to appreciate what you have and not what you don't.

I have learned knives are our friends, even though sometimes they bite us.

The most important thing i learned is that no matter what you have it cant make you happy, unless you appreciate that you have been lucky enough to be able to get the things you had, maybe not the best for now, but its still 100% yours and you can always upgrade when the time comes.

Id like to thank all of you guys out there for showing me this

I have learned that there is life outside of Buck and KA-BAR.

I have learned that Frost knives are worse then I originally thought.

I learned using buckskin for a sheath is a bad idea if you don't reinforce it.

I have learned about a lot of good knives that cost under 100 dollars

I am grateful that I found this place. First off, my money was much better spent on knives I knew I'd love before I even felt them in my hands. I learned that blades have different uses, and different jobs. I've learned I'm not alone with my fascination with sharp objects.

More important, my family has learned what to get me for any major occasion. :)

when I looked at this form I had already joined another form.they are a bunch of idiots and I would not pay them for a member ship to stay on there form. I sit back and look at the people that are on this form. I have got my infraction for making mistakes. some I can see what I did wrong some I dont think I should of gotton them but I have learn about the rules. I dont have very much money but I keep finding the money for my gold membership and will keep doing so. I just did my first buy here and the member was wonderful and I am very happy with the knife. I had some questions and the other members help me out and answered them for me. my friend does the gun and knife shows. he lets me help him and I get to sell my china switchblades there. any time some one ask for a rare or hard to get knife I tell them about this site and how wonderful it is.

I just wanted to buy one good knife when I joined so I knew 0 and other than knife making i think over the years my knowledge is a conservative 7

Of course I just got here and have only been lurking for a couple months previously. I'm dearly hoping those numbers start going up shortly....

Im very glad I posted this thread, I have enjoyed reading how grateful people are for this forum. I have been on a couple of others, and some are okay and some seem like a place where knife users like to talk trash after a late night of heavy drinking. This is by far my favorite site, I come here before I check my email... I recently made a Facebook page thing, I know Im waaaayyyyy behind the times, but I dont really go on there very much. And when I do I like to show off and talk about my knives and all my friends on there that I know in person have no clue what Im talking about. So I like to come on here and talk about knives, try to give advice, and read what everybody has to say. This forum is my favorite social spot. In November Im going to finally get a membership, not sure if Ill get the Gold or Platinum, but I will get one or the other. I dont know if Ill actually sell anything, Im sure I will at some point, but its more to support BF than anything else. Id like to get the membership sooner but October is going to kill my wallet, birthdays, baptisms, dance supplies and tuition for my daughter, halloween, and the fair... I will be broke. But in November is MY birthday so I get to spend a little on myself, and instead of another knife, I want a membership. This place has done alot for me, so I want to show my support any way I can.

Thank you all for making this place feel like home to me and so many other knife knuts! Its not just the advice, and recommendations, but its how everybody here watches out for one another. Its like a brotherhood, sorry to any ladies reading this but I cant think of a better way to explain it, everybody shows respect, honesty, and honor.. which seems to be pretty rare these days. I just wish there were more of us, that way each state could have its own little BF Member social gatherings every so often. I think that would be awesome. Just a day or two to go out and put faces to names, everybody brings some/or all of their knives to show off and others could see and feel knives that they would otherwise have to buy to do so. Well I hope you enjoy my ramblings. lol. I swear it all made sence when I was thinking it.

I didn't know all that much about knives before I joined BF. Since I've been here, I have learned a whole lot about knives, as well as a fair amount about the people who buy them. Still, though, I've learned enough to realize that I still don't really know very much about knives in the great scheme of things.

@ JellyBeanAR-

They will my friend, Ive only been here for a short time and Ive learned more than my wife would ever want me to, now I talk her ears off about things she doesnt know or care about. lol. Shes a knife person too, just not as much as I am. I obsess about the things I like, she loves a good knife but doesnt want to hear about them 24/7.. so she tells me. lol. Ive spent plenty of nights on here just reading one thread about one question I had, and then I would read something interesting that caught my attention so after finishing that thread I would look up whatever caught my attention and so on and so forth until I spent HOURS reading multiple threads.... It is insane how much some people know about knives on here, I still feel like a newbie after everything Ive learned. And in a year or two, I will still be seeking advice from the members of this forum.

I have learn't I don't read posts properly :)

I also have noticed a tendency to go off topic...

I learn't that busse blades are strong as (I didn't even know about them prior to joining here).

Moras are great ability/value knives.

That I have a knife purchasing addiction.

The biggest benefit for me joining this site is having access to the likes Of TK.Steinglass and Bailey knives and other custom smiths who are doing excellent work.
