I was thinking of purchasing an atwood bug out bar to suppliment my EDC, but I am not sure how good of a pry bar it will be. Would it help me escape from an office building or a car? It is only six inches long, so I think that I won't be able to gain much leverage. I cant see it being able to open a heavy fire escape door or a car door.

Hi NitricO-

If you're trapped in a car, don't play around with a prybar. Smash the windows and crawl out of the wreckage. In the office scenario, if your building is in smoldering ruins with the exits jammed shut, the last thing you'll need is a prybar. You'll just be lucky if you escaped with your life.

These great prybars will likely have many more utilitarian uses than emergency ones. You don't need to justify to yourself why you should or shouldn't buy one.

You don't need to actually use the Atwood Bug Out Bar. Just carrying it proves you're way cool. :D

I've love one, but can't see spending the money right now when I've got to lay out cash for another car soon. :(

In an office building, I'm looking for a large fire extinguisher. That will pound pretty darn hard against a door or window frame. Of course, smashing a window and leaving is a good option if it comes to that.

Cars, well if I'm conscious, I'm attacking the windows. Glass punches are cheap. ;)

The bug out bars are great for opening crates of ammo and other similar items. I think of them as a utilitarian tool, not an emergency item.

The Bug out bar is better then using your fingernails to pry open a door. :)

Get a tempered steel mini pry bar from your local hardware store for under $10. In fact get several. Very useful around the house. Put one in your bug-out bag if you want to. For what you pay for an Atwood you can get a handful of these handy little things and have 'em where your need 'em when you need 'em.

I'm fine with that, but what would I ask the staff for, the "tempered steel mini pry bar" section?
