What 'hawk is this, what replacement handle?

I've had this thing so long it's origins escape me. I sort of recall that it's a Cold Steel, but it appears to be a bit rougher than their current crop. From the pictures can anyone give me any leads on a replacement handle? Thanks!

The bit appears to be forge-welded to the eye:

The handle slips into the tear-drop shaped eye from the top. More evidence of the forge welded junction between the bit and eye.

Another view of the eye. You can see why I'm looking for a replacement handle.

Definitly not a Cold Steel, looks a little like an H&B shawnee but I could be mistaken.

I don,t see a pic or a link . All I know is it is a valid method to utiise different metals for the main part of the hawk and the blade . This allows different properties to be easily utilised . It also saves on cost as carbon steel may be at a premium . Some trade hawks were made that way . I,d like to see a pic .

Thanks, Mr. Richard! Beautiful work on your site, by the way. Love the knife/'hawk sets.

Whoa! It looks pretty much just like my favorite hawk.

Does the handle taper toward the grip area?

Mine looks a bit better finished, but still rough, black metal. It also has "INDIA" stamped or carved into the steel just forward of the eye.

My grandmother bought it for me at a rendezvous in Maryland or Virginia, about six years ago. Beyond "INDIA" and rendezvous, I have no idea where it came from. Cracked the handle on mine with a bad throw, but not too badly; nothing duct tape couldn't fix ;)

I'd sure love to find an outlet that carries this type of hawk, I'd snag a few more.

Sorry that I don't have any more info than that. Believe me, I wish I did.

Take care.
