Hi friends,

what heavy duty folder would perform best at the task of skinning and dressing an animal?

Thanks

I think a Fallkniven U2 would be great. I haven't used it for that, but plenty of others have. Mine is plenty strong, razor sharp and easy to clean.

Second  on Chinook. If I had to use a folder on a big animal the Chinook would be my choice.

A Buck 110 has served me well over the years for dressing and skinning game. Also consider Bucks folding Alpha Hunter in 154CM and Folding Kalinga in S30V.

Wayne Clay offers several folders that will do the job, his work is excellent and prices very reasonable.

You might also want to run the question past the folks over in "Wilderness and Survival".

Though the Fallkniven U2, Spyderco Chinook, and/or Buck 110 suggestions given by so far is going to be tough to beat. I think any of those knives could probably do ANYTHING anybody wants!

Buck 110, only cuz it's cheap and readily avalible. You can probably do it with a locking SAK even as long as you have something else to quater the animal.

I would recommend the Buck 110, Benchmade 710, Kershaw Folding Field, Kershaw Black Horse 2, Benchmade Rukus.

I have a first generation Chinook that is my hunting folder. Skinned one deer with it, but I would much prefer a fixed blade for larger game as you get too much gunk and blood in the action. It's not a big deal and cleans out okay, just a pain. For smaller game, it works very well.

I have a mate who's a semi-pro deer stalker here in the UK. He has shot and gralloched between 1,500 and 2,000 deer of all UK species.

He has numerous quality knives from which to choose.

His current favourite knife is the Benchmade 710 HSSR.

Check out the Titanium Frame, Blade-Tech "RIJBAK" collaboration with Greg Lightfoot. They are also designed for the task.
