Hiya!
A while back, I posted here, asking what my options were, as far as carrying an auto on my weak (left) side while on duty as an armed guard roaming the streets of North Las Vegas.
The post is here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=167774
There were lotsa great suggestions and since I'm totally unable to make a decision, I chose 3.
Actually, one of 'em wasn't even suggested, but I got it so the guy that designed it can make a buck offa me.
;)

First, I got me an Emerson Commander with that Waved thingie on the back of the blade. The one I bought was a right handed model, so it's not perfect, but I still manage to take it outta my pants and it's ready for action.
(Can you hear my giggles?)
I really like that blade alot! So do my guard buddies, but they can't play with it.
I also bought a CRKT M16, designed by Kit Carson.
I actually like that knife better than the Emerson, but I can't get it outta my pants as fast.
(!!!)
What I decided to get tho, was a Microtech SOCOM with an American Tanto blade, half plain, half serrated. I got that one from WWW.S4supply.com
Patrick runs the place.. he's a member here, but damned if I know what his user name is!
Anyhow, he's a real good guy and sold me the knife at an EXCELLENT price!
It's what I carry now on duty and even though it's a right handed model, I'm able to take it out of my....
Ok, sorry, enough of that..
I'm able to deploy it rapidly.
I carried it for the first time last night, and I asked my supervisor if he was into knives.
"Are you kidding?", he says, "I'm Japanese! Of COURSE I am!"
So I then denied showing him, saying that he'd only stick it in his belly and disembowel hisself, and I don't wanna have to clean off the blood/other outta the knife's mechanism.
After we laughed hysterically fora while... well, *I* laughed... he just glared at me.... I handed it to him and he was mighty impressed!
"Aren't switchblades illegal in Nevada, though?", he asks.
"Uhh... no.. not for armed guards", I says.
Good enough for him,I reckon!
:D
Anyways, I wanted to let the folks that responded to me know how I made out and what I decided on.
Thanks again for all the help, especially with the Emerson! I never woulda bothered looking at one, until you mentioned it here, and now it's one of my favorites.
The Kit Carson designed M-16 is downright AMAZING when you look at the qualiy/price ratio.
If Benchmade or Emerson made an exact duplicate of that, it'd go for over $200, I'm sure!

Thankjs again for the help folks,
VG

VG,

Glad to hear that you have joined the Emerson fan club and that the job is going well.

Regards,

Ed

Patric...?

I wonder if he is the same Patric than the TripleAughtDesign-Patric?

Can't help my curiosity...

VG- I'm surprised that no one mentioned the MT LUDT in your original thread. The new models come with reversible clip and are very lefty-friendly. I suggest buying one IMMEDIATELY! I'm still having trouble with the concept of someone paying you to carry weapons, edged or projectile.;)

VG - after all we said and did - no Fixed Blade? Not even a 3.5 inch blade in a cross draw sheath? No 4" neck knife? No IWB 8" Bowie? No short sword in your back pocket?

Let me tell you - I am disappointed with you.

My very favorite self defense hard use knife of all time. The only knife I have ever owned that actually made me sore from opening it to much. I'm not even lying. Good choice your Gerbilness.

Dude, i heard that there aren't any left hand clips available, that's why the colored L-UDT's doesn't have the handles tapped and drilled for them.

Me wants a left hand clip very, very much :)

Hiya Ed Littlebabyfloatingonraftinthenile!
(Yeah, yeah, if ya only had a dime for each person that called ya that!)
Anyhow, yep, I'm really happy with the job and the Emerson.
Funny thing about the Emersons is that until I posted here, I never had any interest in Emersons. They all seemed to look like high priced Benchmades or something.
Man, was I wrong!
That Commander is one of my favorite knives now!!

Tuchus, nope, this is a different Patrick.. at lest I'm ALMOST sure!
Anyways, he's prbably not cuz he spells it "PATRICK".

Richard Roswell, yeah, I defintely see your point about being worried in a world that PAYS me to carry deadly weapons!
Scares me and my family too, but as hard as this may seem to belive, I'm one of the top officers at the company.
I ain't bragging, or even saying that I'm GOOD. I just mean ti imply that some of the others are mind-numb!
I wouln't have ordered the UDT mainly cuz the blade is too small for me. The SOCOM has a 4" (+?) blade, that's just about ALL serrated. Me like, much!
:D

Bilirunin, yeah, I know that a FB is best, but carrying it posed a problem. A neckie, under my shirt would be considered a concealed weapon, and I wear fairly tight shirt.
The SOCOM is ALSO illegal in NV, but at last I have most of it hidden and if ever DO have to use it, it will be in a life or death struggle.
I'll take my chances on the judge and jury then.

Hiya Magicman! It's good to know that we think alike, ain't it?
;)

Well, 2sharp, I DID settle for a lefty SOCOM... but it's working out well.
I decided to attach it to my Radio Holster. Attached there, even though it's exposed, I think it will be rare for someone to identify it.
I DO like it very, very much tho!
:D

Off to wonder why I can't seem to type anymore, I shall once again thank thee all, and leave before I get silly.
Love, VG

Hi Dave,

Tis I Frank Castle AKA Patrick at S4-Supply. I thought the comic book I sent along would help with the name thing.

See the avatar. That's Frank Castle a Marvel Comic called the The Punisher So, its kinda like having a handle like Bruce Wayne AKA Batman or even Travis Bickle AKA The Taxi Driver.

So, for those who don't know The Punisher is a comic out of NYC that Punishes all BG's with a vengeance. He is not very politically correct as his "Super powers" usually relate to something made by Hk or of a class III nature.

Frank Castle..... The Punisher eh? I never got into comics, while a kid or an adultish kid. I did, however, see The Punisher on a stand at the supermarket once and picked it up. I vowed that I would start reading that comic, but then the next day the drugs wore off and I had forgotten exactly what I was doing the day previous. I'll have to dig up some old copies of that one and get started.

Vampire Gerbil, when I first saw that thread of yours, I told myself:

"VG's got a Rainy Vallotton auto that any security guy would perform lewd sex acts to get... WTHeck?"

But I didn't bother recommending that one, cuz I figgered you would find it one day when you unloaded the dishwasher and that would be that. Is that piece not to your liking? Because if it isn't, we need to talk.

Wondering if my relatives will rethink living in Pahrump when they meet the neighbors, I remain

Velitrius

Dammit, I just emailed Patrick, saying that now I realize his name is really Franks... only to come here to find that his user name is Frank and hs real name is Patrick.
I'm so damned confused I'm really just gonna call him Debby from now on!
;)
Anyhow, HE'S (Debby) is the guy I got the SOCOM from, and the guy I liked doing business with!

Frack, I sold the large Vallotton, but I still have the Chameleon and the Sidewinder.... they were too small for what I had in mind thougg.. and I ain't so dumb as to put 'em in a dishwasher to clean them, thank you.
I just wash 'em in the ocean, like our ancestors do/did/will have done!

Off to scrape barnacles,
I remain,
VG

eave before I get silly.

WOW!!!
I really liked this one! :D

Tuchus - sounds like latin (or something).

Nobody is asking anything, but anyway I'll tell to you the story about my nickname:
My last name is Tuhkanen - and sometimes (in spoken language) I hear myself called "Tuhkis". So that's it.
In
Tuhka nen part in italic means ash - and in fact tuhkis means ashtray.
But I'm not too pedantic... ;)

Anyway, Tuchus sounded great - you made me smiling the rest of the day! :D :D
Thanks, VG!!!

Heh heh... I wonder if you'd still be smiling if you knew the YIDDISH translation for the word!
In case someone decides to tell you, be advised that no, absolutely NO offense was intended.
:D

he seemed so fond of his nickname...

Tuches - the lower portion just beneath the human back, behind - the gluteus maximus - or in short - an A$$

and I have to LIVE with my name...

Blilious: why ever not? Just points out what man has in his mind... :p

VG: "no offense" - of course not! Never could think anything like that.

But seriously: maybe I leave my nickname as it is - and won't change it to VG's suggestion...

No harm done (anyone), right? ;)

I am a "legs" man myself, but I say - to each his own...:D
maybe I should change my BF name..."sharp legs"...

any idea VG?

I am a "legs" man myself,

Er...
... now I run out of English knowledge.
And as a very curious person, I'd like to know what "legs" man means?
Tuhkis

I think I better skip the "Tuchus" issue.
I'm lucky enough that one of MY posts here at General didn't get moved to Community for going off topic, they way they always do!
That sai, A "Legs Man" means that a guy (straight, I presume) likes women's legs the most, as opposed to being an ass man, a boob man, or in my case, a liver man.
There's also a rodent who is a close relative to me.. he's called a titmouse.... he prefers... well, you get the picture.

Now then, back to the topic...
I couldn't decide where to carry that MT SOCOM.. there's too much stuff on my belt to make easy access to my pants pocket.. er... easy.
So I played around and tried attaching it to my walkie talkie holster. I put it along the side of the holster, facing front.
It worked like a CHARM until I got in and out of my vehicle a few times and I bent the clip all to hell.
I'm re-bending the clip after I type this, and will order a new one from MT asap...
But I'm saying this in case any other uniformed type might be reading this and they ain't as frikkin' huge as I am.
(I lost 50 pounds, but still need to lose another 60 or so...
What can I say? I married great cooks!
Anyways, the location on the holster was EXCELLENT in principal, as nobody noticed it there when I had it attached.
I even looked for it in my mirror, and it took a while for me to see it.. there's so mich other stuff on my belt that it's hard to make out... NOT BECAUSE MY BELLY HANGS OVER IT, YA WISEGUYS!!!

Anyhooo, I'm off to bend.
VG

Dang VG
You must make big bucks as a Guard to be able to carry the expensive MT stuff. I Do not like the auto openers for duty myself. (personal issue nothing to do about quality) I carry an Emerson SARK in my right pants pocket and a Spyderco Goddard LTWT in my left pants pocket. I like the wave feature on the SARK . I think it is faster than the auto opener myself. I have carried the Goddard now for about five years and it has never let me down. The Goddard still remains even though I do carry more expensive stuff while I am working .
