What I did for summer vacation

I'll try to remember everything but sleep deprivation and scotch will make that difficult.

I am horrible with names so I appologize for any mix ups.

I arrived in Georgia last Monday very early. I was visiting my sister as well as attending Blade so I saw many things including a Braves game, the battle of Atlanta Cyclorama (very cool), the Olympic park, CNN center and the Atlanta Historical Society.

On Wednesday, I went to the convention center to make sure I wouldn't get lost on Friday.

On Thursday, I drove north on the 75 trying to find a good place to watch for the rolling nuclear payload. Georgia has a whole lot of trees, there were very few suitable places to view the road, none of them would have worked well so I went back to the convention center to wait for it. I called the Busse shop to see when they would arrive and was told 2:00. When they hadn't arrived by 3:00, I gave up.

I later heard that Amy-0(ink) was there already but I was unaware.

At about 6:00 I got to Fogo and waited. The first people I met were G19G26 and his wife Barb. I think Gravelface, his wife and daughter arrived next. It was a while before they were ready to seat us.

The meal was incredible. I got to meet a lot of people including Cobalt, Jerry, Amy-0, Thatmguy, Idahoskunk, and many others that I don't want to mix up.

After Fogo, we went to the pit in the atrium of the Waverly. We drank a few drinks but eventually wound up by the fountain out front. I heard many of the old stories that aren't fully explained on the forum. It was very fun.

Friday my sister took me on a tour of her job which was very interesting. I was worried that I would not get to the galleria on time to see the first Busse box opened but I got there in time and because of the stupid security guards I got in quickly ahead of many people that had waited longer than me.

I started at the Scrap Yard booth where I bought a Yard Keeper LE and two Dumpster Mutts, then I went to the Scrap Yard booth where I bought two Ratmandu's.

After Scrap Yard and Swamp Rat, I waited at the Busse booth for the first box to be opened. I was about three people out from the booth. For the later boxes I was closer.

I don't remember which boxes held the knives that I scored but I got three Busse's. One was the 2007 AD, very nice. One was an un-nammed military overrun with an SF handle, a partialy serrated recurve blade and an almost full length unsharpened swedge. It's made from ~1/4" infi, it's pretty heavy in hand, much different than my Mud Razor. The last was a very cool bad warden with tan and green micarta (or G-10?) inserts.

Dave Brown sold me a minor blem Skeleton Warden neck sheath for a good price, now I have a sheath that I can use with my Bad Warden and my two Muddy Skeleton Wardens.

I couldn't attend the dinner at Maggiano's as I already had plans for that night.

On Saturday I spent most of the day with my sister but I got back to the show to get an Induction dinner ticket. The dinner was great. I was inducted as Hogwash. I sat with TonyG, Cobalt and his wife. At the next table there was G19G26 and Barb, the luckiest couple at the dinner.

After the dinner it was back to the Pit. I brought some Scotch that I was attempting to use for bribes. I got my first taste of JWB, Johhnie Walker Gold and I drank a little Pig's nose as well.

I bought an Okuden AK sheath. It has grey sides sandwiching a black center, a perfect match for my Urban Grey and Black Aluminum AK. It fits fine with good retention.

Eventually the party moved to the fountain again and we smoked cigars. Skunk did his dance, KAAK participated. Amy-0 drank a little scotch and almost attempted a pole dance.

More stories followed and eventually a $100 cigar ash contest was started.

I tied for first place with Guyon I think. Cobalt, Jerry and KAAK were in the running but their ashes broke.

Winning is awesome. Jerry talked me in to using the shop credit on another Bad Warden.

After the contest was over, I had to go because I was booked on an early flight. Everything went fine and my baggage arrived intact.

Looking back at my trip, I had a great time. It would have been nice if I had more money to spend on knives and the full three days so that I could have seen more of the show. There is always next year (or the Shot show).

p.s. My knife shipping worked perfectly. The only way to send a locked case on an airplane is if it contains a fire arm, so I brought one. If the air line looses a fire arm in an airport, someone will be in trouble. The only problem is if the value of your knives exceeds the ammount that the airline will insure.

You will have to wait for pics.

I know someone photographed the ash from the cigar contest but I forgot to bring my camera.

Now I have to organize a full collection photo which will take a while since I can't find my ratchet.

Another thing I did was Bribe Dan Busse with scotch to make PBF's out of SR-77.

Daniel
It was great to meet you. Glad you made it home safely and I hope you can make it again next year.

I can't wait to see the pics either

:D:D

Nice story of your trip. Glad to hear your knives made it home safely. I look forward to seeing some pictures of your grabs.

Nice inducted hog name ..... that's a good one by the Boss Hog and the Busse community will sure get some mileage out of that one. It might even detract some of the ribbing from a certain Princess. :D :D

Daniel, you were a worthy foe. Pictures of the ashes are in KAAK's photo thread. Great to meet you. Sorry you had to bug out in the wee hours.

If I can deflect some attention from the head of the Hugh Grant fan club, that's fine with me.

I think Hogwash is perfect, I don't want any one to take me too seriously.

Let me revise that, if I say "I'll take it" or if I'm participating in a wager, you can take me seriously. If the wager includes the possibility of sending a knife to grinducci, I'm doubly serious.

Wash, it was great to meet and hang out with you. Really enjoyed the time. Glad to hear your taveling went well.

Can't wait for next year.

Take care

Yes Wash is a good guy.... but he needs to get back on his bike and go to City Cycles in San Francisco (Ari) or A Bicycle Odyssey in Sausalito (Tony Tom) and talk to them about a bike that fits. Or if in Utah go see Max Testa:thumbup:

How's your hand Chuck?

You and Barb were very lucky at the induction Dinner.

I had my own bit of luck in the ash contest.

It was good to meet you Tony.

I do need to get back on my bike.

My present bicycle fits well enough to get back in shape. The first order of business is getting a new set of wheels that aren't flat spotted. When I need a bike I can sprint on, I would rather buy a bunch of lugs and tubes to roll my own.

If I screw up, I can make another and it gives me a good reason to buy a nice Oxy-Acetylene setup.

Daniel,

It was such a pleasure meeting you:) :) I have to give you some highly deserved credit.....I drank SCOTCH...and I BLAME YOU!!!!! LOL:thumbup:

XOXO

Amy

Wash, we really enjoyed kicken it with you. And your body type is just like Jerry so you have something in common, short legs long torso. Maybe Jerry should give you a special discount for that since you might be long lost family:D

I'm pretty sure I know where my distorted physique comes from.

Some one had a really good laugh picking what I would get from my mother and what I would get from my father.

I did a little research to see if the Busse family ever crossed paths with mine and I found this:

The family name Busse is one of the oldest Anglo-Saxon names of Britain. It is a name for a person who works as a cooper, someone who made barrels or casks. The surname Busse was originally derived from the Old French word busse, which means cask. The surname may have also been a nickname for someone with a well-rounded belly or someone with the ability to drink the entire contents of a cask.

Very fitting for Jerry.
