Durring the summer I hit some of the Saturday Markets in the area to try and sell my wears. It normally turns out to be another day at the forge for me but it keeps me from being bored. The bowie in the picture is in the oven right now. Just don't step on my toe.....

You forgers amaze me and I hate not being able to try to learn that. My current dwelling does not permit it. Really nice looking work. I highly respect that degree of craftsmanship. RL

Dang Ramond, that is clean! This is why I don't get too excited about thinking I'll be able to forge blades - it's freakin hard! I'll watch out for your toes, I have big feet too! :D

Nice looking blades, I dig how you forged in the shoulders on that bowie.

Dave

Dave, You know I used to think the same thing about never learning it when I first started. I basically started doing stock removal after I had bought a book that told me how to make a coal fired forge. I said the same thing but I never gave up on the idea. I'd get a little better every year but what I used to do and what I'm doing now is totally different. Just seems like the last couple years I can take a piece of steel and turn it into something that is 90 to 98% a knife. The large bowie blade is out of 1 1/2 X 1/4" piece of 5160. I did that one first thing in the morning in less than an hour and a half and the blade on it is 10". The market is 6 hours long so I figure I forged for 5 hours of it.

I feel sorry for you guys that live at a place where you wouldn't feel comfortable forging or it is just out of the question. The anvil in the photo I got last year and I got it mainly for my demo anvil so I can leave my Trenton at home. The forge I had up last week or so is the same size I use for the demo's. Those two things plus my stands for each and a few hammers is all I take to do my demo's. Forgot the bottle of propane. This stuff really doesn't take up much space and its very portable. Maybe thats a way that you can get around not being able to forge at you residence. I would think you could find a place to set up. Just a thought.

Pretty fancy forge work there, guy. 95% forged is getting pretty tight, even for a gnat's butt! I guess when you are good, you are good! Like Dave said, I don't want to step on your toes, either!

Looking Good Ray..
Hey this is why they call them Demo's and not sales:rolleyes: :D :D

Can't wait to see that one finished.
Bruce

Bruce, I guess your right except it cost me 20 bucks to do it. As many cards as there taking I'd think I might get a call. Who knows. Been working on the bowie most the day and sure thats what I'll be doing till I go to bed.

That's amazing Raymond! I have been trying to take them that far because I'm not really supposed to be grinding at all. I just can't quite get the last little bit to come together.

It's funny because I have much better luck taking swords to the end than I do with Bowies. Anything smallet than a Bowie doesn't go past 40% or it becomes a pancake or a razor knife!:o

Peter, I find the smaller blades harder to do myself. There doable, just have to go with lighter blows and use smaller hammers. I've never done a sword, don't have anything long enough to heat treat them in. Bowie's are as big as I'll go. I've still got to grind, just not as much material to remove.

Looking good Ray, cant' wait to see the bowie finished, got a Scagle look to it going on.
