Hey all. I used to live in Idaho a few years ago, and being a blade maker when I moved there (now in Wisc.) My own Idaho had just a unreal amount of burl wood. There was so much, and so many different kinds, I was in burl heaven. Well here are a few pics of about 1 20th of what I found. All of this is just band saw cut, not even hardened yet, but cool stuff.!! If ya like wood enjoy. edgy

Oh well I guess I'll try in another day. See if I can figure out where the color went? *I try*.. Enjoy edgy:thumbup: or:thumbdn: if you see the pics..

Wait, you found the burl in Idaho or in Wisconsin? Wisconsin has a ton of awesome hardwoods, one of the few things it has going for it. I exodused from Wisconsin to Idaho :D We have alot of awesome soft burl woods in Idaho, but no hardwoods-unless you're looking for cottonwood, sage or locust :/

Hey Seals. Yep I did find all of those in Idaho. Looking at where you live Payette? Looks like we were almost neighbors? I found them not far from where you live. The woods that were burled *if thats a word?* were box-elder, black-box-elder, maple, elm, chinese willow, and a few hybreds that the forest service could not ID, even with the leaves and seeds, and flowers of the trees. Oddly enough the really cool ones came from the hybred=mutant=odd trees. Im gonna try to take another shot at taking better pics, cuz in the ones I posted you really can't see how nuts the wood really is. Some have Reds, orange, purples, and even blue in them, that did'nt show up. And some of the others with nuts eyes, and whorels & flames, did'nt show. So its back to photo class #1 for me. I do live in Wisc. now and found some burls here, but Nothing like Idaho.!!! All told I found over 4-5 TONS of very good burl there.-(long story) Well I'm Gonna try again later for people that just like wood, the beauty of some of it is unreal. Enjoy. edgy:thumbup:

As it is in Wisconsin, logging is a huge deal here... and you're right, there are species of hybrid trees noone's ever heard of. I live in Boise by the old military reserve. "The city of trees..." Lately the city has been running around crowning all the big trees. I don't know how many 5-10 foot wide burl chunks I've watched go through a shredder, it's kinda sickening. I should go talk to a crew and pay em to save me some chunks :D

Hey PayetteRucker. About those tree toppers & line clearers. Yeppers.!! In Weiser Id. I gave the crew forman a small worker/hunter in trade for him (he knew what burl looked like) giving me any wood that I wanted. And would even call me to let me know when they were takin down any big ones. So YES.!! do ask them. I have to say that when I lived in Idaho, I ran into some of the nicest, coolest, and honest people, as a group I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I loved it there, and would still live there, if things had not made me move back to Wisc. The outdoors of Idaho is like living in 7-8 very different states, just by driving 50-100 miles ome way or another. I miss it. But yeah arange it so the wood is not *sigh* scraped.!
P.S. Oh yeah those hybreds sure are weird huh.! Enjoy. edgy:thumbup:
