Ive been at it again - dun dun duuuuuuun - more tests, experiments, and some random silliness.

First of all...there is a clearly visible difference between veterans of a skill (practiced and well-trained) and those unskilled. Heh..had come to have it in my mind that what is seconf nature to one, is far from it for others.. Yeah, students line tangled, yanks on line, I nearly get beaned by heavy shot and bait. Student casts out, I nearly get hooked in the @$$. Did get hooked in hand..can tell you from experience..eagle claw hooks are both very sharp and efficient. This where and when two simple tools shine. Pocket pliers with cutters and hand sanitizer.

I clipped the ring of the hook, after pushing the barb on through (it was close enough), and then pulled the pieces out. The alchohol worked to kill any bacteria. If I hadnt brought a pair of pliers, id have had to ended the trip temporarily. (Cant even take a multitool into the park).

Also, glass bottle rootbeer, butterscotch beer, and cream soda can easily be mistaken for alchohol. As evidenced by tubers going down the river... "Catch any fish?" Asked one fellow. "Or buzz?" His buddy added. This can, in effect, draw unwanted attention.

Also, a 220 pound fairly athletic man, bearing a pack, and running down a steep hill pulled by a thirsty 90 pound dog that has spotted a river, does tend to draw attention. That took some fancy goat-like footwork, and I'm glad I didnt break my neck...or my tail bone. Sandy, wet, mucky soil gives away quickly. Steep hills are a crapper when youre tethered to a very determined and large dog. Dog has four legs and a low centre of gravity. Dog has a huge advantage. -_- Onlookers found it very amusing..thought the dog was just adorable. Evil is more the proper term.

Also, dont stand at head of hill with crazy, water-loving dog...going down face first isnt fun, and river sands tastes like doodie, and the water was icy. Dogs tend to take off, and if like me you arent attentive at the time..dogs will take YOU for a walk and bath.

Fun fun! As for the dog, try a harness with a D-ring on the chest. When the dog pulls, it turns him, thus training him that charging ahead instead of heeling is fruitless.

On the fishooks, you might consider removing the barbs from the hooks. Lost fish aren't as frequent as you might think and they are much easier to remove from fish and humans. I did this with my kids hooks when they were young and careless.
