...is a framelock Military with a lower riding clip and holes for tip up and down. One titanium slab, one G10 or CF. Would be puuuuurrrrrrrfect.
How 'bout you?

Exactly! Only, without the stripes and price tag!

That type of knife could get pretty pricey though. Maybe not as high as a Strider, but above what most Spyderco models cost.

I think a model slightly smaller than the Military (3.5ish blade) with titanium locking side and peel-ply CF non-locking side would be a perfect EDC. I'm sure some of the customizers here could do the titanium locking side added onto a BG-42 Mili, not so sure about a smaller blade though.

I'd like to see a Benchmade Axis Lock with sculpted G10 scales, anodized titanium liners and no crappy zytel back spacer. Open back, to keep the pocket crud down. The blade should be a plain-edge, 1/8" thick, 4" long clip point- made of ATS-34 or D2, bead-blasted. A crystallized titanium blade might be nice- like the old Benchmade-Emerson collab, without the chisel grind or tanto point and thicker. (though I'm not too sure about the edge-holding of Titanium) It should have thick bronze bushings like Strider uses. With a tritium insert, Tad-Gear thumb stud. And one of the old-school parkerized clips (not painted) riding high on the handle so it doesn't scream "knife!" to everybody you walk past. I figure such a knife would cost around $400 -$500 if put into production and be worth every penny.

I have been thinking about the customizer way-to-go to make me my perfect knife... hmmmm...
anybody know someone skilled with titanium?

STR has remade entire handles for Manixes and Mini-Manixes. Pretty sure he has also done a framelock. I bet this would be a snap for him.

And this is in the Spyderco forum why? ;)

You lost me at thumb stud:barf:

:jerkit: I was just spitballing about what I thought would be a rad knife. There's no Benchmade forum and I was just responding to the concept of a pie-in-the sky ideal knife. Jeez, some of you guys are so strict. Fine. Remove thumb-stud and replace with round hole. Happy? I apologize for bringing non-Spyderco elements into the Spyderco forum. Nobody uses their thumb to open an Axis lock anyway. Oops- are axis locks verboten in this forum as well? Replace "axis" with the crappy ball-bearing lock on the Dodo. Oh wait. Now my knife would suck. Thanks for showing me the way. Let's make sure to keep ideas brand specific. Wouldn't it be cool to see a Spyderco with an 1/8" thick blade, sculpted G-10 scales and beefy titanium liners?

another vote for STR, he does great work with Ti, and he "invented" a low riding clip in Ti for Spyderco knives.
You can check his work on the official Spyderco website forum.

I've wanted to see an axis lock on just about any Spyderco, but it seems the hold up is that BenchMade doesn't want it's best lock on the competitions knives. Spyderco could do a rip off of the axis lock, but Sal doesn't like that Idea.

Spyderco did the ball-bearing lock on the Dodo and D Allara Rescue knives (others?), which I see as their attempt to come up with an axis-like lock. Unfortunately, from what I can tell about the examples I've played with, is not a really great lock. I'd like it if they took another shot at the concept-or perfected the bearing lock somehow. My problem with it is that the bearing is too tight and hurts your fingers. It's not fast or smooth, which is the whole point of that class of lock. Perhaps if they replaced the spring with a lighter one and did something to the surface of the ball to make it less slippery, like bead blasting. But bead blasting would roughen the surface of the bearing and make it, in effect, a mini file wearing away at your knife's innards every time you operated it. You'd have to use a softer steel than the liners, which might cause the liners to gouge the surface of the bearing under heavy use. Then the lock might freeze up. Titanium liners might make this worse. I'm not an engineer, but perhaps using a lighter spring might cause the lock to fail under certain conditions.

FWIW,
The AXIS lock sucks! :barf: I don't like the bb lock, either. Titanium blade as an improvement???:foot: That's a good one! Want to talk about rip-offs, look at the BM Skirmish! AFAIK, the opening hole is TRADEMARKED! Why would you come to the Spyderco forum, and then post about Benchmade b/s? :jerkit:

That's because Sal and Spyderco has integrity! Did I mention that the AXIS lock sucks, anyways!

No offense to you, Joshua J., I just quoted to make a point.

The work that I've seen from STR is phenomenal!

:foot: As I mentioned the last time somebody jumped on me for mentioning a Benchmade feture in connection with a Spyderco design, there's no Benchmade forum. Thanks for the jerk-off symbol. And why the venom against the axis lock? Did the axis lock date your girlfriend back in high school? Some people like the mechanism. Nobody's forcing you to use an axis knife. I was talking about the lock mechanism, not the brand which apparently isn't cool to some people. I don't really care about brands, I care about quality and features. If Fury starts making really nicely put together knives with great design and quality materials, I will buy them, because I like nice knives, not brand identity. Benchmade has some nice features and makes good knives. So does Spyderco. I own multiple knives from both companies. Spyderco could benefit from using some of the features Benchmade uses, and Benchmade could benefit from using some of Spyderco's features. This "stay out of my clubhouse" mentality is disheartening.

As far as the axis lock sucking, I've had back locks and Walker locks fail on me before. Never happened with an Axis. Oops, sorry to bring this up in the Spyderco forum.
