What if you straighten up the spine of a pen knife?

Looks a little like the Kabar Camp Knife.

Still cool isn't it?

(Don't get mistaken, I still want a pen knife :P)

just curious dave...
did you just use the jure to open that bottle?
the cho? does resemble a bottle opener

I'll second the "don't use a knife as a bottle opener" adage. I used one as a prybar under a bottlecap, and the whole top of the bottle broke off and gashed the webbing of my thumb. I duct taped it closed and partied on, but it was a dumb thing to do. It was a closed folder, and was working well all night until the oops.

Heh.

What I meant was, the projecting hook on the jure is on the edge side of the blade. If you insert it under the cap and lever the handle upwards, it will pop the cap off nicely; the problem occurs when the edge hits either the bottle (bad) or the backs of your fingers. (Worse.) While there are no major blood vessels back there there is a fairly important tendon, not to mention the bone itself.

The sad thing is it still took me three tries to figure out that this was not a good idea. :o I would never try this with a folder, though. MBE is even crazier than me!

It's immaterial anyway. Real men either use the cho to pop caps off or simply saber (or khukuri) the top, or bites it off if a khukuri isn't available. Everyone knows that. ;)

i can use a bic lighter, or almost anything with a right angle or steeper angle to open a beer... its pretty easy once you figure out how to lever off your hand right...

Didn't the smaller original Pen knives have a straight spine before they started looking more like a WWII?

Some of you newbies probably don't remember the HI wood chisels....
