What INFI for Bow hunting?

I am doing bow season for Deer and Elk this year. It is the first time in many, many years. I am packing up for late season and have my blades pretty much figured out. I have a Black Tie Game Warden and a Customized BATAC. I think these will fill the bill along with my saws and such, but I am hoping to score a CGFBM before hand.

Anyhow, what do you bow hunters pack with you? Well, how about any hunters? I just wanted to see what others use and have to say about them from the hunter's standpoint.

Thanks, Mike

I take a small folder with me for gutting my deer. Its a Spyderco Endura 50/50 serrated. It works well for gutting and the serrations work good for cutting through the ribs up to the neck.

I have a few busses, but havn't taken them hunting with me. I like a small, thin knife to guy my deer. I think a active duty or leaner meaner would work well for dressing and skinning. The CGFBM or FSH would work good for quartering a deer or elk. I normally use a small folding saw for that.

There were some good pics of a guy on here recently that used a CGFBM to 1/4 his deer and it looked like it did a great job.

I usually have a Mr Mofo on my thigh and an old Mean Street IWB or in the pack. Mofo does quick branch removal or heavy butchering, the MS does the skinning and detail work.

I think your choices are good ones...personally I prefer to just carry the one knife and a back up folder/multi tool when out hunting...this year will be a SJTAC I modded and discussed in another thread...in the past I have carried a RMD...other choices for me would be a SY S5LE or the SAR4 LE....they all have a Satin finish needed for our Health & Safety rules on food prep....I do use a larger blade in the deer larder though...usually either my DFLE or my FBM...this year I may take up the KZ as this would be interesting...:D

MEANER! 4 inches of INFI goodness

Great photo...who did the mods on the Meaner...having removable pins is a great idea for cleaning and boiling out the knife:thumbup:

I like to have a big and a little busse blade!!!!
Scrapper 5 / Dogfather le
Game warden / Cg FBM
and I always have a folder, something beefy!!!

The use for the big chopper could be accomplished with a good axe, but it is one of the few occasion you can carry a big chopper and wear it with the intent of using it the way it was designed to be used....Chopping wood for fires, heavy chopping on game....and you dont need a side arm in bear counrty!!!! A la Davy Crockett!!!

Here are some pics from a couple of weeks ago........

Thanks... I did it all in the garage. It is pretty simple work with a belt grinder.

I love seeing the hunting pics...Hopefully next month I will have a couple of cool pics with me skinning some deer. Hopefully its a nice buck too

I helped butcher an elk last season with my Ash1cg, my modded SS, and game warden. They did pretty good. A meaner would have been much better than the SS, but it did give decent service for some tasks. The GW was too short for too much of the actual butchering, but would work good for gutting and skinning. I think the Tank buster looks like a useful design for that kind of work too.

It was a spur of the moment thing, and no cameras were there.

I used my Game Warden last month to clean a buck deer I got on opening day. It worked fantastic! I prefer the smaller knives for gutting and skinning. I tried butchering with it too, but found the thinner kitchen knives worked a little better.

I plan on using my SAR4 if I get a moose. But the way its looking, the if is a big IF.

Plan on trying out my BAD on a Deer this year. It's plenty of Knife for our Blacktails around here. :)

I could use some broadheads in INFI too. Something like the Zwickey Eskimo would be super sweet.

Bow:confused::p

I've had the knife picked out since Blade.

It has been a tough haul to save it for the proper christening.:o Soon my precious soon.:thumbup:
Always seems to be a use for a good multi tool too.:)

I purchased a busse hell razor which wasn't a very good skin/dresser so I picked up a Pork Belly Skinner and haven't looked back. What a knife!!! I'll never let it go.

The PBS and a recharagable recipro-saw. awesome combo lol.

I was SO tempted by the orange PBS at blade west... not that I could have afforded it, but that thing was awesome. Any pics of the PBS in action???

I have a few from this weekend I'll post tomorrow. We killed 3 hogs saturday morning and about a dozen cottontails. One of the guys brought a scoped/silenced .22 and sat on the back of the truck Friday evening picking them off one by one as they wandered into camp. The rain we've gotten down here really had the animals moving.
