what is 0170-6c steel

Hey guys i wondering if anybody know what type of steel 0170-6c is close to in edge holding/ flex/ ect i know that ppl say its the same steel thats in the cold steel trailmaster but that does not give me the info im looking for is it close to a2/01/5160/ect hope you guys can help

i have seen the faq info before but it still does not tell me anything about the steel as to egde holding/flex/ect what i need to know is what it is similar to

Jerry Fisk (ABS Master Smith) once stated that the closest steel in terms of similar properties would be 52100. That's a pretty high endorsement as I'm a big fan of 52100.

Hope that gives you some idea.

Thank you for the info if it is close to 52100 it will cut like a bitch and shapen up easy also. The reason i ask was because i just got myself a BK9 and i wanted to know what sort of knife it would be out in the wilderness for camping ect. How do you think this steel will do in cold weather say minus 30-40c as i do a lot of winter camping

Hopefully Will or Jerry or somebody might be able to answer your question regarding cold weather performance.

I used to do quite a bit of cold weather camping (Adirondacks in Winter; Mt. Washington (NH) ascents every February for several years) but I'm a bit older and smarter now. ;)

i tell there are some days where i think no matter how much older or wiser i get i would still do stupid things at least thats what my wife tells me she says its the nature of the beast:D
