Does anyone know anything about the blade steel Case Cutlery uses in their USMC Marine Combat knife. Their description reads "109 carbon steel" and I can't find any more information about it.

I'm planning a Kabar vs. Camillus comparison and I'm considering getting the Case, and Ontario versions as well.

Any advice on the 109 steel is appreciated.

Thanks,

Most of the manufacturers of the Marine Combat knife (Camillus, Kabar, Ontario...) used 1095 alloy carbon steel. That is iron with 0.95% carbon added in. This is a rather hard carbon steel. Usually it is heat treated to around 56 RC for the combat knives. It would work well at 60 RC if it was a hunting knife.

Case cutlery emailed back and appolgised for their error...it is indeed 1095.

Thanks,
