I have a emerson knife that I cant say enough about, the blade steel is 154CM a steel I dont know much about and have not had the chance to test fully. the only thing I do know is that it is the sharpest knife I have ever had I would be thankful for any info about the edge retension, flexabilty, and personal thoughts.

I once heard it is used in jet turbine blades but not sure how true that is and how much better is S30V

154CM is a stainless steel made by Crucible Metallugry. That's what the cm stands for. It is basically the same as ATS34 which is made by the Hitachi Corp. in Japan. It also does extremely well when it's cryo treated.

154cm stainless? is it? IMO its not 100% stainless
I agree, there is not a steel out there that if not cared for will not stain.
I have an older Buck Kalinga (440C) with small stains, probably from blood, that I cannot remove.

Stainless doesn't mean it will absolutely never stain or rust. Yet, 154CM - along with a ton of other steels that can possibly rust under certain conditions - is classified as a stainless steel. Read up on some archived posts about stainless for more info.

154CM is a good stainless. That's stain-less. I will stain; just less than a carbon steel. A true "Stainless" steel would not make a very good blade.

H1 is truly stainless and makes a decent knife steel. I have one of Spyderco’s Pacific Salts sitting in a jar half full of sea water (half the knife underwater and half exposed to the salt air and splashing) for about a week now - not a speck of rust.
