Just picked this one up, and I can't find anything on it. The box is marked Buck B110-XX-0, Catalog #5329. The blade is date stamped 2007, the scales are some kind of acrylic gray pearl looking stuff with no rivets or pivot pin visible.

Anyone know what this thing is?

In the December 2011 BCCI newsletter, Joe Houser discusses 100 year Buck anniversary models. In the article he states "Now here’s something you may not know. Some of Buck’s dealers did not want the medallion on the 110. As a result, Buck came out with one that didn’t have the medallion. The box is labeled B110-XX-0, Cat. 5329." As stated, your blade is from 2007 and the anniversary knives were from 2002. Is it possible that the box and knife don't belong together? The knife looks like a custom to me.

Oh sure, it's possible the box and knife don't belong together. I bought it this weekend from a dealer who I know to be reputable, but who hasn't mixed up a box and knife at some point? :)

Something kind of funny, the newsletter you mentioned says the 100 year anniversary knife came with a certificate in the box. Mine only has the usual green and white warranty leaflet, and I swear the previous owner even tore off the registration form. Is it possible that someone actually registers his knives? Inconceivable!

I think the XX designation means they were shipped without handles.
The acrylic inlays are not factory, so it was a special order by an aftermarket modifier.
Perhaps our Factory Moderator Buck Knives Inc. Buck Knives Inc. could verify that.

Interesting. If this was done by someone other than Buck he did a first rate job. My trademark lousy photography doesn't do the knife justice. The scales are a black / gray / silver marbled kind of stuff. The guy I bought it from thought it was Kirinite, and couldn't remember where it came from.

I've dug through the buildout list and the Special Projects lists in the newsletter for the years around '07 and have come up blank. The possibility that it was done by someone else seems likely.
