I am in the market for a strider and I was offered a Tanto blade which i will pass on and now i am being offerred a gen 4 SNG. What are some of the drawbacks to the Gen IV Strider. Anyone here own a gen 4 or has owned one??

I know the Gen 4 does not have the hinderer lock. I also think there is a difference ebtween the liner lock of the Gen 4 and the gen 6, but not sure what that is?

Sorry to ask again but i am learning as i am going and since this is my first stider I want it to be the right one as I plan on making this my ultimate EDC. I tried my first venture into higher end knifes and tried the Sebenza and i did not care ofr it at all.

. This gen 4 I am being offered is used and carried for $225. and was wondering if the hinderer lock is that big a deal and i should hold out on a used gen 6 for a little more $$.

i really like the "old school" type striders.

if you're getting an offer for a gen4 for 225, that's a very good price so long as the folder is in good condition. for some subtle nuances i feel like the older models are better manufactured.

i've never overbent a framelock strider, and it's unlikely you will either. i don't think the hinderer is absolutely necessary, but it's a failsafe in case the worst can happen.

the subtle differences between gen4 and newer sngs are probably a bos heat treat, stamping and strider labeling, a *slightly* thicker lock recess on the older model, and a different "scalloped" lockbar. i don't remember if the lock face of the gen4's fit flush with the blade tang, but the newer generations are cut to not contact the tang fully. strider says this is designed on purpose. i think it's a design flaw. also your gen4 may have a "saber" grind (?) as opposed to the full bevel on the newer models. the thumbhole on your gen4 may be smaller than recent models.

regardless of the generation it's still a pretty great knife. i have one on me right now.

hope you find what you want!

My s30v tanto SnG doesn't have a Bos mark. It's one of the black G10 with a US flag cut into the G10. Does that mean Bos didn't do it?

Paul Bos doesn't heat treat all Striders any more. My understanding is that the Strider boys do the heat treating now, and they use the same process that Bos developed. Those without his trademark flames and name are the newer ones...
