Having never taken these types of survival classes except for military schools. What do these commercial classes, "the good ones", expect that you will be carrying in a wilderness survival situation? Just a knife? Other material? These classes could go from a camping class, with tent and full gear to nothing except a loin cloth. What do the good schools assume you will have with you when you are in a survival situation?

Knife 4 inch fixed blade, backup a folder.

Water bottle/cup
Weather gear [depends on the season] Take a Ripstop light weight Poncho more versitile

This for a week long course. I should add this is for a hands on down & dirty ,Most have a class room and field so you'll have more gear. Depends on what your ready for.

Keep in mind there is no licensing, accreditation or 'Guild' system to be a 'survival' instructor. There was an attempt some years ago by one party to create an association- with the happy adjunct of putting them in charge! Most schools will send you a list of needed kit. Many will provide a few basic items as part of the package. Moras as a 'training knife' are a popular item both for low cost and useability and you may return homw with the bowdrill kit you created in the field. What they tell you to bring, offer and try to SELL are another good tool to make a judgment. I'm putting a school together someday. Instead of cammies, buckskins or ninja outfits my staff will wear tweed suits and ties. When I find my old woodburnning kit the KAV signature survival knife ( a mora) will be offered at discount to graduates. Is $10 to much? For $15 the deluxe model has paracord wrapping.

Hi there Akabu! George here!

I am starting my school this summer, first class in June. I have taught for others for a long time- 18 years as of this summer.

What do I think people will have on them? Hopefully more after they take the class than they do now!

It also depends on the class- in my Primitive class, it is pretty much just the clothes on the students backs. On a basic survival class, I like them to bring things like a knife, water bottle, etc. A survival class is NOT a survival situation.

Same GH? If so See you at Terrills:D . Is DP still running his course? was not sure so did not post a link for his class. Good for you ! Let me know whats happening.
