If you're Jeremiah Johnson, or Grizzly Adams, it could be. Really, it's what you're comfortable carrying with you everyday.

For some of us, on certain days, that could be a tiny Swiss Army knife clipped to a keychain. For others, that could be a Spyderco Manix or Sebenza. It's your choice.

Edward D. Crump, his claim to fame was the inventiion of the pocket which enabled people to carry small tools with them hence the name EDC.

Couldn't resist ;)

how long you been waiting to say that?

It's a once in a forumlifetime thing too...too stupid to repeat and somewhat life threatening to say even the first time. On second thought, that'd make a good sig. :D

One nuace of the EDC that I think a lot of people overlook is that an EDC doesn't mean you carry it "every single freaking day".

"Everyday" refers to a normal, mundane, non-special day/task.

If you go hunting every day, your hunting knife is still your hunting knife (unless you also carry it for EDC, which you very well could).

Your EDC is for general, non-specialized carry. You may only carry an EDC a couple times a month and it would still be an EDC. You could carry your hunting knife more often and it still wouldn't be an EDC if it is carried only for hunting.

"Everyday" doesn't refer to the frequency you carry it. It refers to the mundane, non-specialized nature of the carry.

An EDC knife is with you when you run errands, socialize, or hang out. You may not run errands, socialize, or hang out every day.

Your work knife, hunting knife, SD knife, (etc...), and EDC may be the same knife, or different knives.

It is "Everyday" carry not "Every day carried".

Think "everyman".

and logically, it's the contrary of ENC (Every Night Carry), because, if during daytime you carry a small SAK, and during night a machette or kukri to hunt young ladies in New York streets...
The machette is your ENC... :D
If this is the case, please contact urgently the FBI to discuss about your night habit...;)

Some of us have EDC rotations where we EDC a certain knife for maybe a few weeks then take another one out of the drawer for a while, etc. I have a Spyderco Kiwi as an "office" EDC and a rotation for when I'm not at work. :)

Welcome to bladeforums.

Well then it would be an ESFDC now wouldn't it. :p Maybe we have had the acronym wrong all along. Should it be EC for Everyday Carry? Makes one go hmmmm doesn't it. Saying "hmmmm" alot makes me
