Sorry for the stupid questions, but...

I think I want to get one of the LCABS Boss Street LEs, but I don't know anything about the handle material. What is "black paper"? Is it as good as micarta or G10? Or does black paper just refer to the finish?

How does it feel in hand? Anything like G10? That's the only reference I have on hand to compare it with.

Paper Micarta feels more similar to G10 than it does to Canvas Micarta.

Imagine a spectrum, with Soft and Porous on one end and Hard and Nonporous on the other.

Canvas is on the Soft and Porous end, G10 is on the Hard and Nonporous end, and Paper is in the middle.

More or less...

With a little buttery smoothness added in . . .;)

What everyone else said +1...

Here is Busse’s link to handle material: http://www.bussecombat.com/handles/index.shtml

Not much info on exactly what paper micarta handles are though. IIRC, paper handles are the frailest of any handle material used by Busse, but, IMHO, looks the best (save for possibly Snakeskin).

I really don't think "frailest" is the right choice of word... even paper Micarta is pretty tough stuff!

I think it has the best hand feel of the Micartas. Smoother and more comfortable than canvas Micarta, but not hard and slippery. It's great!

Stay sharp,

Paper micarta is just that, paper impregnated with resin under pressure. Out of the three micarta's (paper, canvas, and linen) it is the least strong. That being said it is pretty tough stuff as is any micarta. I prefer linen for looks, feel, and strenth but any micarta done properly will serve well.
