I was wondering what blanchard ground steel is.
I have been using PG steel and was wondering what the differenc
is,I do not like hot rolled because of the bark on it and if blachard ground has the bark removed already it may save me some money buyying it over PG for fixed blades
Thanks

Blanchard ground is basically the same as surface ground.

Big difference is a Blanchard grinder has a rotating table, with the stones (several of them) stationary above the steel. depending on the surface desired, you may see some circular marks in the steel. Most surface grinders have a stationary wheel, and the table moves back & forth. (You probably already knew this)

The biggest advantage to Blanchard grinding is that several items can be ground at once, due to the size of the machine's table. The shop I grind the most tools for has one, and it's table is approximately 12 feet in diameter. They use it for Blanchard grinding of large platens used in the plastics industry.

Hope this helps.
