I keep finding threads where people say that comp finish was discontinued because people kept misunderstanding its purpose and were expecting more of a satin finish. But I couldn't find anybody saying what exactly the comp finish was and what it was meant for. The closest I found was a post from Garth saying that it was a "competition grade finish", but I have no idea what that means. What competition? How is the comp finish achieved and how is it advantageous in this "competition"? Thanks for any info guys!

Comp finish=raw not display worthy to those who are particular. Imagine you were gonna be in a cutting comp, would you spend extra time dolling it up? Prlly not. Also always busse to offer them at a lower price point.

The edge is usually thinner on the comp finish knives, too. The comp finish Jackhammer is one great cutter.

What are they competing in? It's definitely not a beauty pageant! They may be ugly, but those blades sure are sharp. I know that I've cut myself on more than a few.

My SOB is comp finish and it's sweet looking:)..... I hear that they are hit or miss.... But then taste is individual....

I do not get why comp finish is called ugly? I think it may be the best finish Busse has ever had. My FBM looks so cool with the dimples and the CBT..

I watched the Bossman demonstrate just how sharp the Comp finish set were by easily filleting notebook paper over & over with a Jackhammer and pretty sure a 'Squatch too at the booth during BLADE 2008.

Mine are. The LE's have convex ground edges too.

IIRC, those SARSquatch had a zero grind, convex right down to the edge. That would be in contrast to the thick bevel found just behind the primary edge on some other Busse knives. Geometry cuts, and thin edges cut much better than thick ones.

Zombie killing. The slick, uncoated blade creates less drag when pulling it out of zombie skulls. Coated blades might punch 45 craniums a minute. Comp finish is good for around 55. 60 if you're on your game.

I knew that I had this somewhere...

...My SOB, comp finish..... Nothing wrong about that!

David Brown sheath and Scrapivore ( David made a sheath for the tiny beast too)

I like the looks of the Competition Finish blades, mainly because they are nothing fancy. Using them doesn't make me cringe when I scratch them.

Busse SHOULD make a BladeSports legal competition knife and come compete with it!!!
