So what exactly is concealed carry in California for a sheath knife? I know that I can not have the knife completely covered, but what exactly does this mean? If I am walking with a jacket on, and the jacket goes over the handle, is this concealed carry?

Maybe. Could be. Probably. Do you really want to go through the hassle of being prosecuted to find out? Carry totally unconcealed, or carry a folder, that's my advice.

good advice argyll. if your knife is inadvertantly concealed by a jacket, it is still concealed. your intention of open-carrying the knife might be irrelevant if you put on a coat that covers it up.

Unless so,ething has changed recently in CA, a knife worn on a belt in a sheath is not concealed, even if covered by a shirt or coat. Tuck said sheath into a pocket and then cover it, it is concealed. If stopped and asked about weapons, say " I have no weapons, but I am carrying a knife." Explain that it is a tool. The word weapon will get you popped right now. If asked why you told him if it's not a weapon, explain that for your safety and his, he needed to know, even though it isn't carried as a weapon. That rather falls aoart at 0200 in a bar fight, so don't be foolish.

Greetings Gene,

I am pretty sure I've read a California court opinion, which at least suggests otherwise, but its too late at night for me to go searching for it now. Obviously the LEO one encounters has a lot of discretion as to whether to arrest someone for a concealed fixed blade charge.

The blade has to be under 3 inches to qualify as a tool and not a weapon

That is certainly not a matter of California state law as far as I know, but maybe true in some municipalities.

I want to know if clipped can be considered concealed. With part of the handle and all of a clip visible. Stuck in the pocket but without covering it up or slipping it inside the pocket.
Thanks

If it's a folding knife, no problem - folding knives of any length can be carried concealed so long as they are folded, not opened and locked. If it's a fixed blade, then that is concealed.
