OK, so I bought some Concealex and that is all good.

But, what is it, who makes it?

Where can I get it, in big sheets?

Is there an industrial name, so I can call Laird plastics and have them procure a sheet of it?

I have a theory.

My theory is that it is a 'generic' or knock-off of Kydex that some makers found to work well.

If you want to find Kydex, it is no problem, Kleerdex even changed their name to Kydex. But do a search for Concealex, and there is a big empty, no manufacturer claims it....

Can you all help?

I googled it and found a ton of stuff.

This might help-
Kydex is a thermoplastic material that can be molded into complex shapes with heat and pressure. One of the pioneers of the use of Kydex in holster manufacturing was Blade-Tech Industries of Tacoma, Wash.

Blade-Tech's latest innovation is Concealex, a camouflaged form of Kydex that incorporates the camo pattern right into the plastic itself. This remarkable material is resistant to most chemicals, oils and solvents, and is absolutely waterproof. It has a permanent memory with excellent retention qualities, facilitating extremely smooth operation.

I googled it too, and found a number of product websites, but no hard info.

And when I went to Blade-Tech, they don't list it.

Still a mystery to me.

Well, I just solved my own mystery...

I finally got frustrated enough that I started thinking....

And searched for 'Concealex sheet", which led me to....

Q: What is Concealex? A: Concealex is a trade name of BladeTech for a product known as BOLTRON. BOLTRON is the trade name and registered product of the EMPIRE Plastics Company . per http://www.kleerdex.com/technical_FAQ.asp?section=10

And you would think they would know.

I know that they are made completely different. kydex is PVC based while concealex is ABS based. so if you are using concealex you can't use PVC cement to glue your pieces together.

The Survival Sheath Systems Forum had a very confusing "explanation" .He uses Concealex but calls it in his website Kydex !! Similar properties but different chemically.

Normark uses Concealex. I have two of his sheaths, for my F1 and for my Dozier K1; both are superb designs and work perfectly. Concealex is thicker and the subtle pattern is more attractive than standard Kydex, IMHO.

Concealex or kydex, anyone know a source for camo material? I've seen it used but haven't found a vendor.
