I received an infraction for political spam and admittedly it wasn't directly knife related but there are many topics in the Political Arena that aren't. I'm walking on eggshells here on BF I've already had 3 infractions and never another on any other discussion forum.

I included a link to a political candidates website. How is this SPAM? If one does or does not choose to visit the link, no harm done. Would it have been acceptable for me to mention the candidate with the link but not mention donating? Would it have been acceptable to mention the candidate with no link at all?

Wikipedia:
Spam is the abuse of electronic messaging systems (including most broadcast media, digital delivery systems) to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately. While the most widely recognized form of spam is e-mail spam, the term is applied to similar abuses in other media: instant messaging spam, Usenet newsgroup spam, Web search engine spam, spam in blogs, wiki spam, online classified ads spam, mobile phone messaging spam, Internet forum spam, junk fax transmissions, social networking spam, and file sharing network spam.

You may want to Post this question in Service and Support.
Thanks but I would probably want a Mod to move it because I don't want duplicate threads and I'm beginning to wonder if the Mods like me or not. I've never done anything that I considered inappropriate and just want to be a positive member of bladeforums.

I agree with 555, Service and Support would be the best place to ask.

Would it have been acceptable for me to mention the candidate with the link but not mention donating?

I read your OP and I do think that was a major part of why you were dinged....but I'm not a Mod so take that with a grain of salt.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback and can see that as an issue. I respect the Mods and the job they do to keep BF running smoothly. I'll accept my lumps, just want to understand exactly what not to do.:D

Hoopster- as others have said, this isn't the place to argue your case. In fact, if I were you, I'd go back and delete your post, apologize and move on. Your infraction was for posting inappropriate material in Political. You're essentially doing it again with this one. Get over it, and move on. It's not THAT big of a deal.

I am not attempting to argue my case, I just want an explanation as to what part of my post was spam. I agree that it shouldn't be in Political but I don't think I can move it to service and support myself.

Can Gold Members lock threads they start?

Yes they can but they can't move them if I'm correct.
This one is getting locked, I think I've got a general idea what the answer to my question was. Thanks guys.

Real quickly, there are two issues here. The first applies site wide at BFC - generally speaking, it's a very good idea to check with the management up front before making a post that could in any way be construed as a solicitation of funds. The second is more applicable to the Political Arena. Here we have long asked that new threads be written from the point of view of the OP, and that they include original content and analysis. This requirement is not enforced as rigorously as it once was, due to the forum now being restricted to paying members, but we still draw a line at the simple reproduction of mass emails and the like.

Moved to Service & Support anyway. :)

hoopster, no mod is out to get you. You're a good guy, and we aren't even out to get the guys we don't like. We're only directing traffic here, and you made an illegal turn, so Ken C. turned you back around.

As Bronco said, the big problem here is soliciting. We lump all forms of asking for money under "spam" whether or not it's commercial or charitable -- or political.

If you had posted your own understanding of Ron and Rand Paul's politics and why you felt Rand was such a great candidate, you could add a link to his campaign site at the end of that kind of analysis.

Just be prepared to defend your views yourself and not assume campaign literature is a fair rebuttal to BF members who don't believe it.

Wow, clarification from two Mods. Thanks guys. Sorry to take up your time with such a small issue but your consideration has helped me out.
