What is considered Murdered and Dressed?

I always thought Murdered meant every surface is somehow touched/decorated. And I thought Dressed meant like a Damascus blade, nice wood/bone scales or milled titanium, and maybe decorated bolsters. You know, fancy.

But I've been seeing Dressed knives with plain blades (not Dam or San Mai) and Plain scales, with maybe a Timascus pivot color or clip.

Not wanting to criticize anyone, just wonder what the consensus is of these terms since they may have changed over time.

Thanks much.

Murdered usually means all dark/blacked out details and materials.

Dressed is as you said....fancy materials....Damascus, pearl, mokume, timascus, etc....maybe certain carbon fiber.

Thanx, bro. I did not know Murdered meant that. But your description of Dressed is how I understand it.
Yeah I agree with you in the sense that I don't consider slapping a timascus clip on bead blasted titanium frame lock "dressed".

Personally I think dressed requires at least two fancy elements and usually 3 or more.

I agree, but I won't be a jerk about it if I see one mis-described. ANYWAY, your info is really useful.

I honestly think it would make more sense for murdered out to be all red. Like blood red. Ah, but what do I know.

"Murdered out" = everything on the knife is black.
I wasn't familiar with these knife terms...
I must be out of the loop 😟
B.T.B.
[Edit to add]
-Actually, my first thought was some kind of hunting reference that i've never heard put as such, Lol

Does anybody remember the dude from a few years back who came here looking for an all-black knife? And everyone gave him a bunch of options, and he got really mad because he really wanted a knife where EVERYTHING was black, and nobody could show him a knife where the EDGE was black, and he just would not listen no matter how many people tried to patiently explain why the edge would never be black...
