What is difference between Golock and Golok?

Could use some schooling here. I tried using the search archives but no luck. I really like the looks of the Martingale machete called a Golok No. 2 which is made in England. It appears to run anywhere from $14-$65 depending where you look. After looking around, I see that there are two spellings: Golok and Golock. What is the differences in these machetes? Is one just a brand name and the other a "type" of machete? And finally, any good sources for sheaths/scabbards for these type of machetes?
-Thanks for any help!

It's normal for words coming from another language to do so with alternate spellings, especially if they come from a language with a different alphabet. I would be surprised to find any material difference between a golok and golock.

Bark River Knives also has a big knife known by some variation of the Golok name. If you are interesting in spending a little more money, you might want to check them out.

Yep, just to back up what Esav wrote further, the Brits sometimes use to change the spelling of machete to matchet:).

Well, both alphabets in Indonesian's case would be Latin. Golok would be the preferred spelling (it's the one the Indonesian language uses), but golock appears to be an Anglicism, a la matchet.

I don't discount there could be a Malay or other dialectical reason for golock.

But we are describing the same weapon.

Ahhhhh...... Now I understand. Thanks to all. Has anyone ever made a wooden sheath/scabbard for any of these big boys (Golok No. 2 size)?

No, most of the wooden sheathes are produced locally, on a piece by piece basis. Most mass produced golok sheathes are leather or nylon. Some nice British surplus sheathes have shown up on Ebay the last few years also.

There are actually a couple of BRKT Goloks (sp?) for sale in the forum from Buy Brown...
