I'm looking for a outdoor allround knife and want an Emerson.
What is his most versatile model knife?

And what is his most famous model?

As far as my favorite model from Ernie by far is the M Wave but its only available in limited numbers. If you can find one its the perfect folder though. Now as far as great Emerson classics and what I think is the best looking its probably the CQC8 but his most versatile model and probably the most ideal for everyday use and carry in my opinion is the CQC10. Thats a really nice folder that Waves better to me than all the others he makes personally with the exception of the M Wave which is far easier to make work reliably than all the others period.

Most Famous: CQC-7 or Commander.

My Favorite: Wave Super 7 BTS or CQC-11 SFS. I prefer the larger folders.

Stand by I think I hear a moderator coming with the moving van! :D :D :D

get yourself a commader if you want some utility, But if you want the best pocket fighter get a k-bit. the combat version. love mine.

The Commander's blade is not easy to resharpen as it is heavily recurved. Not sure it is very utility friendly....

I vote the M-Wave for the best model EKI has put out. The thing to note also is that the guard on the 8 and the Commander and similar models is very wide so your forefinger is very far from the ricasso/blade. I find that I lose control that way and thus prefer models with a narrower guard. The M-Wave is just right.

I would have to say the CQC-10. I love that knife and use it more frequently than others I own. If you clean and oil it the Emersons will last a lifetime.

The most well known and my favorite is the CQC7 A or B model. Small enough to carry in your pocket and versatile enough for cutting and self defense. My two cents.

Me and STR just talked about this the other day and thought the CQC10. GOOD LUCK! Kevin:thumbup:

For concealability and self-defense, I think the La Griffe is an awesome knife.

I love my CQC-7.

You mention outdoor use though, so I will suggest my other EKI favorite - CQC-12. Bowie style blade in a strong framelock.

really like my commander for rugged use but my favorite is my CQC-8

I love my commander, it feels like a fixed blade when it's locked open (reach, blade design, and hand filling). My next knife will be another commander but with a black plain edge this time.

I like the 11 and the 7A together, make for a nice EDC, with the 7A getting the majority of the work load and more people friendly on the draw. The 11 is there for a "specific application". When I'm not in a good mood, the folding Karambit in a custom kydex sheath gets the call. If I had to go with one, the 7A would be it as it draws less attention in the overall picture.

Of the four I own (Commander, CQC-8, 12 and 13), I would think either the 8, 12 or 13 would be fine. Thier modified chisel grind takes a littel getting use to but it's be quite easy to maintain in the field. I typically just strop. Of course the 12 has the fame-side lock, and is probably the most robust, however all three have an excellent belly for skinning. I like the Commander, but the other three provide better tips for bushcraft and making more precise punctures.

Personally, I've carried an Emerson since '98, which was my Commander...I'm going back and forth between the CQC-8 and 13, I like the design of both for the majority of cutting chores. The blades are a wider saber grind, giving a decent robust structure, but (I think) the M-Wave was more of a flat grind which would be a better slicer and still give you adequate strength. I haven't had an issue with the current profile and I've employed all but the Commander over here in Iraq with excellent performance.

Emersons are a little quirky if you are used to typical folding knives.

People tend to either love them or hate them, depending on your usage needs and priorities.

For the best all-around versatility and reliability, the '12 is relatively good, due to its framelock and (somewhat) normal grind.

I also like the cqc-12 as the best all around emerson. The most famous I would think is either the cqc-7 or the commander. I've yet to handle an emerson I didn't like.

I like my cqc-7a, but good luck finding one... Right now I'm carrying my cqc-10, and as far as readily available Emersons go, in terms of utility and versatility, I don't think you can go wrong with it. On the other hand, the Emerson Designed Barret .50 caliber knife, looks to have a pretty good utilitarian blade, but they are, again, not as easy to come by and rather spendy.
