I don't have a lot of experience with micarta, mostly just with Bark River knives, which I find to be a little slippery and not as grippy as I would like it to be. Especially when my hands are dry, it seems slippery.

What is the micarta like on the Fallkniven knives? Something like this one:

I'm not sure I want to get one with thermorun, which I know what obviously be more grippy. But I like how the micarta looks...

Thanks for the help!

I have two 3G Fallkniven F1s.
Fallkniven's Micarta is just like every other well done polished Micarta. There's nothing special about it. It looks and feels beautiful, but in terms of "grippiness" I would rate it 7-8 if the Thermorun was rated at 10. You can see from my photos which obviously ends up seeing more use.

Oooooo! That's gorgeous!!!

I knew this for the older production, wasn't sure if currently they have the same practice.
I'm familiar with Hattori work, love it. Thanks for the input !

Recently someone has started a facebook group that covers Hattori's knives. I was contacted and asked if I'd join but
being a dinosaur I'm not on FB....lol

I do have the Hattori Collector link, I got it from you few years back when I had question about my two SOG knives.
I don't have FB account and probably never make one... The link is visible and I'll take a look but FB isn't really my thing...
Thank you anyway !

It's not my thing either.....LOL.
Just FYI..

Wow, I thought I was the only person in the world not on Facebook. Good to know!

Thanks for the answers to the original question, too!

I really wish Fallkniven would make a wood handle version of the F1.

You can remove the polish with some detergent, warm water, and a rough sponge. Just be careful not to cut yourself (don't ask how I know). That'll make it grippier.

(OT: From your Fallkniven link: "...of course, the blade has a convex edge, something that we are alone in the world to offer." - what are they smoking???!!!)

Yea, that comment about the convex edge is strange. I wonder if the author (presume Peter Hjortberger) meant "we were alone" like 30 years ago.
Even then, I'd have to do some research if that would be true. But I guess it's possible. Not that Convex edges didn't exist, but the claim may be that
they were the first production maker to offer it.

Convex grinds go way, way back in history, of course. As far as more recent production makers, doesn't Randall do convex? Joker, Marbles, Bark River...

I'm not an expert on CRK, but if I'm right all Sebenza's have a convex edge.

True, but that is just the secondary bevel that is convexed. The blade grind itself, which is what we are discussing here, is a hollow grind.

I had a Randall 1-7 and don't recall it being convex. Bark River are well known for their convex blades but they didn't start until 2000/2001. Cold Steel's Trail Master and Recon Scout didn't go convex until Hattori started making them in 2007. Don't know anything about Joker or Marbles if they are convex.
Thee more I think about it, it may be possible that Fallkniven was the first production knife. Maybe.

When I was at Randall ~10 years ago, they put the final edge on with a large benchstone. That's not really convex. CRK used to recommend using a Sharpmaker, which doesn't really give a convex edge either. IIRC the last CRK step is the edge on a belt sander, which can give a little bit of convex to the edge.
