Hattory uses some tungsten steel. Does anybody know what is it?
I found only this info:
"Hitachi Aogami No.2 high carbon tungsten steel"
and
"The blade is made from Hitachi Yasuki tool steel. This is a special carbon steel that contains 1.25 - 1.75 Tungston."

Thanks, Vassili.

This is a japanese high carbon alloy cutlery steel, often used in their handmade kitchen knives and woodworking chisels. There are 3 grades of Aoigami (blue steel) Super, #1, and #2. Other than that I don't know much. Hitachi steel is usually of very high quality.

It is one of the standard knife steels that are used by japanese blade makers. Even though there are three grades of blue steel (Aogami), the basic difference with respect to white paper steel (Shirogami) is the addition of tungsten and vanadium to increase toughness, but most importantly to make the heat treat easier. Japanese blade smiths often do their heat treatment by experience and the color of the red hot blade. Shirogami has a very narrow heat treat window and requires a very skilled blade smith, while blue paper steel increases the window.

There was recently a thread called: "tell me about blue steel" or so. Can't find it at the moment.
