What is in black canvas Micarta?

I'm looking to recreate the Busse's black canvas Micarta look. Not going to make a resin exactly, but I'm going to finish some wood with it, so maybe gluing a few layers of the fabric onto the wood, then spraying over it with lacquer.

Does anyone know what's in it exactly? The obvious answer is black canvas... but we all know it's got some shade of green that seems to disappear with use or if the scale is handshaped rather than CNCed. And the threads look a lot thicker and more frayed than what you'll usually find in canvas. They look more like burlap, actually.

Any other creative ideas?

I was under the impression it is black colored/dyed canvas just like it sounded? The weave is coarser than denim by a bit. The green or grey result on some samples seems to be from different amounts of dye in the batch. As for the threads, I have seen canvas in the military with similar thread counts, but it could be burlap.

I should've figured it was something as simple as "canvas, but coarser" :p

I got the impression that it was layers of two differently dyed colors. They alternate between dark gray/black and gray/green. Similar to the yellow and red on tan canvas Micarta. But I always wondered why use and handshaping made the colors more uniform while the CNC machines made the layers of color more obvious.
