Today I had a fellow show me a Spyderco knife he purchased at an auction that I had never seen before.It had a blade that on top resembled a Pro-Venator and on the edgeside it looked like a Rescue,straight and full serrations with a different pattern than on the Spydies now. About one and a half inch from the point on the top of the blade there was a angled slot that led into a hole bevelled on both sides of the blade. It looked like a tack or staple puller,but could have been for fish hooks? The handle was stainless like a rescue handle with the drain slot, only on the left side of the knife a scale was stamped in the metal.Inches on top, metric on the bottom.The clip was mounted tip down with three screws straight across in a line and the center screw was off center.It was in pretty good shape and worked pretty good after I loosened it up with some Rem Oil.If any one knows what this is let me know. I felt like it was real.If it is for real I think I'll pick it up from this fellow,because he isn't interested in anything other than Automatics and I would hate to see a nice old Spydie go away unappreciated.

lb - It's an old "Pre-Diver". 1200 pcs total production. Electro polished 440C. Originally had a "hook" like the Snap-It, but it didn't work well enough to satisfy us so we ground it off. Taught us how to make the Snap-It.

Thanks for the speedy reply.This one seems to be in good shape so I think I'll add it to the collection.I saw your new dealer catalog today. Really nice,Excellent pictures and I really liked the layout for the Spyderwrench, nice job everyone.I thought the page on Edwuard and his knives was a nice tribute and I can't wait to get a Shabaria in my collection.I have a Spydercard on the way from Chai cutlery now.

Thanks again;

Larry Wheat

You don't find too many of the dive models around. If I remember correctly both the Diver and the Diver Probe came in two sizes (?)

I have one of each except for the smaller Diver Clipit (If it exists?) I use them for, you guessed it, diving. I've found that if I spray them with a silicone bqased lubricant used in the food industry they don't rust at all. Extensive exposure to seawater has removed the label from the can. If anyone is interested in this lubricant, let me know and I'll swing by the hardware store and refresh my memory.

The diver's probe was essentially a Diver with a flat bar shaped handle 7-8" long (Sal?) with a pry tip on one end and a modified sheepsfoot style blade folded into the other. I'd scan one in if I could get my scanner to work.

I think it's a line cutter.

Them:"What's that clipped to your pocket, a beeper?"
Me:"Uuh....yeah, something like that."

Yup. The slot in the blade is a line cutter. Haven't really figured out how I'm going to sharpen it though...
