Ok guys, I know I sound like a dumb A__ but I have a question. I have a Buck119, TAK1095, Hen and Rooster bowie (German Soligan Steel), Old Camillus KBar, Ontario pilots survival knife 1095, and a few other sheath knives. Those are my main ones that i like. The question is. What is Hollow ground mean and Flat ground. I dont understand that stuff. Especially hollow ground on my Buck119? Thanks for the help.

If you look at the grinds on the sides of the blade, some of the grinds (camillus, Ontario survival knife, Buck 119) you will see that the sides of the knife curve inwards at a slight radius (concave). This is hollow ground. It allows the blade to be sharper without being tall.

Flat ground (TAK1095) is when the sides of the blade are in a standard V-Shape. This make the knife a little stronger for tasks like prying.

Note: I've always taken Flat ground to mean that the V that makes up the primary grind goes all of the way to the spine of the knife. If it doesn't go all the way, it's saber ground.

Oh ok, now i see. Thanks Michaelmcgo. I never have really paid attention to the details like that. Now i know what your saying. So the TAK is by far a stronger knife than the Buck. Hollowground has always confused me. Thanks for clearing that up and not laughing at me about it. haha....

This may help (and it may not). Top to bottom: Full hollow grind, hollow saber grind, flat saber grind and full flat grind.
