What is it?

Over the many years in which I traveled I-40 I have seen these objects in the distance. They are always in the middle of nothing and nowhere and there is only one. I have seen them in many states. Today, on the way home, at the risk of life and limb, I decided to try to get close enough to get a good picture. Does anyone know what this is?

It looks very much like a VORTAC station. These are, to put it simply, radio navigation aids for aircraft.
 
It is an extraplanetary communications center relaying messages from our masters at galactic control.

Oh, OK, it IS a Very High Frequency Omni-Directional Radio Range Tactical Air Navigation Aid.

By golly, you are right. I take back everything negative thing that ever said about you. I can now go peacefully to my grave. :D

I looked up VORTAC, and there are different styles, but they all look basically like the one I posted.

Esav is probably right too. One attempts to correct the MidnightSuperMod at their peril.

The Venusians communicate with me via my watch or, sometimes, the parrot.

The invisible psychic pixies living in the centre of the Earth, on the other hand, beam their communications directly into my head. I find this method far more convenient. Those Venusians can be difficult bastards at times.
