Alright guys, its time for me to get some new steel. I have it narrowed down between the King and a 16. I currently have a 2 and 14. I dont have a decent mid-size bushcraft knife (well I do have a Mora Companion) but I dont have the King either. I should be getting a CS Trailhawk soon and I already have a decent hatchet so I am thinking that if my 2 cant handle a task (like thats really possible), the hatchet/hawk will. But I dont have the King. You see my problem here? I think I would get more use out of a 16, but its not the KING! And BOTH is not an option unless I want them BOTH used on me by my wife. So I put it in your hands, guys. Which would you get in my position and why? If someone has polling capability, that would be awesome........Thanks

I want them both and decided in favor of the 16. That one is currently on its way to my door! I just see more use in it for myself, at the moment.
I've got a 14 too, and until now I've been more of a hatchet guy anyway. The middle position of the 16 made me decide in its favor.
The 9 will join the club eventually anyway, so :D

Sometimes you don't know you needed it until the you have it: THE BK9.

What if the zombie apocalypse strikes early?

16. Don't get me wrong, the 9 is a great knife, but utimately you will get more use out of a 16 than a 9 unless all you do with your knife is baton wood to pieces for the fire. Besides, you are going to get the other one eventually anyways, might as well get the smaller one first since you will be fairly well covered with both a hawk and a 2.

More likely than not, this is true.

Really the only thing you can do is buy all the sharp things and then choose each one's you'll need before each trek into the wilds.

The 9 does pair well with a 16 or a 14 ( I use both of them every day)

BK9, for me it seems easier to make a big knife work down than to have a smaller knife work up. Just a personal thing, I suppose. Really, you ain't going wrong with either option. I have both and use the snot out of the 9, the 16 has been a really nice surprise since picking it up on a whim.

Unless your needs require a BIG knife I'd go with the mid-size since you already have the BK2. As said above, Mama will eventually give you the nod for another Becker some day, but at least for me, the 9 could wait til I had more fully completed my battery of more immediately useful blades. I'm not into collecting, my tools including guns and knives consists of things I use and need otherwise I generally don't keep them around. Several knives I agree with as they have certain tasks that cover a spectrum of uses. For me that means a small, medium and large fixed blade and then a high quality folder that clips on my jeans pocket.

The BK17 is high on my list... But the BK14 will be first for a small blade. BK2 is currently my only Becker - I've had it for over a year now and swear by it.

Oops, sorry not sure how that double-post happened. Computer was acting strangely at the time. (Moderators delete that second one if you would please)

This post is exactly what I needed! I also own a bk2 and bk14. Just bought a bk13 remora for a neck knife. I'm anxious to hear other responses and to hear what you decide! :D. This might help me pick my next bk piece of steel.

My vote goes to the 16 in your situation. You have the chopping and batoning covered, and in my opinion, the 16 is a better bush blade than the mora, but thats my opinion.
